Description

Please note that the product information displayed is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and other third parties and is not independently verified by Petco.

The Mexican Hogfish has bright colors that will stand out in your aquarium. In the wild, they are known for picking parasites off of other fish, but this has not been widely observed in captivity. This hardy Hog is docile and typically peaceful to all fish. Beware they may make a meal out of your clean-up crew and really small fish. This fish will grow pretty large to 1 foot 6 inches, so be sure to provide a large enough aquarium of 180 gallons. They can be considered reef safe since they won't bother corals, but they will most likely go after mobile inverts. Provide a varied diet of meaty foods for their continued health. The tank mates are less likely to become a snack if the Mexican Hogfish are well fed. Juvenile Mexican are red in color with black horizontal lines and a yellow caudal tail. Adults' will maintain the red coloration but will develop a yellow streak. The Mexican Hogfish is found in the Eastern Pacific inhabiting rocky and coral areas up to 76 meters deep.

ACCLIMATION: Avoid exposing new aquatic life to bright lights after opening the box. Turn off aquarium lights prior to floating aquatic life. Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. A bacteria booster addition can assist with the addition of new aquatic life. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe for the addition of new aquatic life. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried and frozen foods, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller aquariums.
