Returning this Dog Food

Maybelline

I bought this dog food since it was recommended to me by my local pet store. My two dogs, who are 13 and 11, ate through the first 4 lb. bag without trouble. After buying a 2nd bag of this dog food though, I began to notice one of my dogs started having trouble pooping. For several days, he has had to squat 2-3x before he is done. Not only that, but my dogs’ poops aren’t solid like they used to be. I ordered a 3rd bag (12 lbs) for Black Friday, but I’ll be returning it. I will be changing my dogs’ food tomorrow.

Great for food sensitive dogs

My Yorkie has had many issues with gastritis, including vomiting and bloody diarrhea and we were losing hope. I decided to really research this issue and find a natural dogfood and finally came across Merrick. Its been a godsend for my Yorkie, He loves the small kibble and wet food and has not gotten sick from his food ever since we started him on Merrick. We will never give him any other dogfood. After several successful months of dry food, we decided to buy the Oven Baked cowboy treats and again we have success!! We are beyond delighted and so relieved that our lil Franky has had no tummy issues and is healthy. We will only feed him Merrick but unfortunately in the last 6 months or so it seems we've been having a hard time finding the Small breed dry food and the Cowboy cookout treats are unavailable everywhere we've searched. Hopefully this issue is temporary.

Upset with this specific recipe

I’ve been feeding my little guy lil plates small breed for a while now. Since he’s 9 (with no teeth), I’ve decided to get him the senior formula for small breeds. Well I’m quite disappointed that the senior small breed kibble is larger than the all life stages small breed kibble. I want the benefits of a senior formula for him that still has a very small kibble. I’m going have to go on the hunt for a new food for him again.

Thank you for your review and sharing your feedback with us. Food safety is very important to Merrick, and we want to assure you that this recipe is safe for your dog to enjoy. The chicken bones you found in the can are there on purpose as this is one of our bone-in recipes. In fact, Smothered Comfort, Wingaling, and Gameday Tailgate products have been on the market since October 2005 and have become some of our top sellers. We added our Backcountry Hearty Chicken Thigh Stew to this line up in 2015. If you notice on the can, there is a note from the chef that states the purpose of the chicken bones: “Our slow cooked, whole chicken thighs/wings offer marinated tender chicken cooked on a softened bone. This special cooking process makes the bone soft and safe for your dog to enjoy." Feel free to serve whole, remove, or break apart the soft chicken bones for ease of pet consumption. The bones also provide the full flavor your dog loves and a unique treat. The food is pressure cooked inside the can and this process is what softens the bones. For further assurance, please watch veterinarian Chris Smith in this video about our recipes with bones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETem8C6fGx8 . If you have any other questions or if you would like us to make recommendations for other recipes that do not contain bones, please don't hesitate to contact us!

I have an 8 year old Bichon with limping in his left back hip... I also have a 12 year old Golden who has a hard time on the steps to go outside and I am buying the Senior formulas today for both. I work at a pet specialty store and have heard the first hand proven stories and now want to be part of those living the benefits of this great food. I will check back here in a month or so and update what I have observed. I know it will be good news...

Excellent Food for my Rescue maltese

Bonnie

I adopted my Maltese of 11 years old from the shelter a month ago and what a difference this food has made! She had dry hair and dry skin, her coat was awful, she was also underweight. I was told about this food from a Maltese breeder and went to buy the lil plates Senior Chicken and sweet potatoe and could not be happier! Lily loves this food so much, her coat is thick and shining, no more dry skin and she is full of energy like a puppy. Her stools are very good and no bad odor like other foods cause.

Great for chubby dogs

I started with the lil' plates for my small dog when he was about 6 month old. He does great on it and is very healthy. Adding the training treats, he was getting chubby by 1 year. I did some research and found that the senior version has all of the same quality with fewer calories. I am not feeding him this without having to starve him by feeding him less.
