Hello. Just got my new puppy. They had her on pedigree soft puppy food. A sales associate in PetCo suggested we switch her to Merricks lil plates puppy food. I am considering transitioning my puppy from hills science to merrick grain free dry dog food. Is merrick a good brand? What are the benefits of grain free dry dog food? What are the differences in feeding a dog salmon Vs chicken vs lamb vs duck?
The foods I'm considering for my dog are natural balance lid and Merrick lid. Natural balance is 20% protein and would provide between 11 and 13 grams of protein per day. The Merrick is 25% protein and would provide about 16 grams of protein per day. My dog is a cavalier King Charles spaniel, 5 years old and relatively inactive. What would be a better option for her. I will note the Merrick is slightly less calories than the natural balance. Natural balance is 350-375 and Merrick is 350 calories
My 7 lb poodle mix eats Nature's Instinct raw frozen, or cans (beef). We switch it up, as she gets bored. She gets a teenie Greenie daily, tiny milkbones (natural trail mix), and as a big treat, Merrick's lung treats. Every few months we go through a bout of diarrhea that lasts 3 days, and she then gets Royal Canin low fat gastro can, or ID gastro (as Royal Canin is not shipping right now). Could this be the Greenies? Vet thinks maybe. Metronidzole 50mg does the trick. Your thoughts?
