Using the chart on the back of the pack, divide the total cups per day by the total number of times you feed your dog per day to determine the portion size for each meal. Keep a clean bowl of fresh water available at all times. Every dog is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size and activity level. Please use the information below as an initial recommendation only and adjust when needed. Dry and wet food in combination will help to increase the level of water in your dog's diet. If feeding with wet food, reduce dry amount by 1/2 cup for every 6 oz. of wet food.

Questions
Is there crude ash in this food? It’s not labeled.
- I checked the packaging and there is no mention of "crude ash" anywhere on the packaging. My elderly is thriving on a mixture of this dry food and Merrick's canned wet food that is duck-based.Helpful?
do you have samples of merrick dog food available
- Thank you for your recent inquiry. Unfortunately we do not have samples, as the stores that carry our product honor our guarantee. If for some reason you are not satisfied, you can simply exchange or return with your receipt. We do however have discount coupons to offer. You can access one from our website, or contact our Pet Parent Relations Team at cutomerservice@merrickpetcare.com.Helpful?
My doxie was just diagnosed a diabetic, he has been on natural balance dog food
- All of our food (wet & dry) is formulated for the well pet. Unfortunately we do not have any foods formulated for pets with special needs. All of our can foods are grain free and considered Low Glycemic. If you need any certain information from our analysis, I can provide that information to you in order for you to check with your vet. Your vet will know if our food would be suitable for your pet.Helpful?
Does merrick grain free duck formula contain brewer's yeast?
- I have had no problems with my dog wanting to gnaw his paws incessantly when feeding him Merrick Grain-Free Duck or Pork dry food. I made the mistake of switching to another grain-free product a month ago because of a good sale, and he has been chewing and licking his paws non-stop for about two weeks. I'm immediately putting him back on Merrick. If there is any yeast in it, it isn't bothering him.Helpful?
Expiry date ?
- I'm sorry that I can't tell you exactly how long the food lasts, but I find it's important to transfer the food from the bag into a few good, air-tight containers or ziploc bags, because the food will stay fresh much longer this way than if you keep it in the original bag. The dog food bag comes with a built-in zipper that can be re-sealed and has markings above, indicating where to cut the bag open; however, I've found that the zipper peels away from the bag quite easily once it's been opened, which defeats the purpose of having a zipper. My dog loves this food, and I can say for sure that the food lasts at least a couple of months when stored properly.Helpful?
What is the best way to switch my GSD puppy from a grain food to a grain free food and wean them completely off of the grain food?
- I've found that it's easiest on their stomachs if you slowly mix in new food with old food. Maybe at a 1:4 ratio for a few days, then 2:2 ratio, and so on. It should only take about 2 weeks to completely transition. PS my grain free food (Merrick) has done wonders for my pup's skin!Helpful?
what's the size of the kibble bits?
- The kibble in the Grain Free Duck is about the size of a button on a mans dress shirt, there is also a picture on the side of the bag of the kibble that is the actual size.Helpful?
Re: Merrick Grain Free Real Duck & Sweet Potato Dry Dog Food - can this dog food be purchased in something larger than 25# packages??
- As far as I know 25 lb bags are the biggest I've seen in store on shelves and online. But it is definitely a great food.Helpful?
