Recipe changed, lower quality

Recipe changed, and not for the better. Much less meat in food now, pork meal is several ingredients down, which means the bulk of this food is now grains. After 15+ years of feeding multiple dogs Merrick, we're searching for a new brand. Disappointing to see another company choose profits over quality.

BEWARE- BUGS IN FOOD

Please stay away from this dog food brand. I've been feeding it to my pup for 4 years now and within the last couple of months there are bugs and worms in 3 different bags I've bought! The kibble is also not consistent. Last month the kibble was darker brown and more smooth coated and yesterday when I bought a new bag the was light brown and grainy. Will be returned not never using this brand or any brand that this company is under.

Every new bag seems to be different, both my dogs get explosive diarrhea after eating their first meal from each bag, thought it was coincidence, last bag smelled like ammonia, tossed it right in the garbage.

As others have posted I ended up discovering worms and black beetles living in this bag. This bag cost $95 and then I had to pay my vet $500 for a visit to correct the infection and diarrhea this food caused with my dog.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Bugs in the Kibble

I purchased this Bag of Merrick food (one of my dogs is allergic to poultry and this brand was the next reasonably priced comparable item until my usual brand comes in stock) and there was white cottony coating on some of the kibbles. After 4 days of feeding my dogs, I noticed there were small beetles in the kibble. They came out of the kibbles when I put warm water over the foods before feeding my dogs. I tried to contact Merrick company and the recording said to call back because the ENTIRE company was in training. One of my dogs has diarrhea now and she eats everything and never gets diarrhea surprisingly. The kibbles have little holes in them that look like bore holes from the bugs. An occasional grain bug here and there maybe in dog kibbles, but whatever the situation is with this batch of Merrick food, something is wrong. I really just need to return the bag to the store now.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Bone Bits in the Kibble

ELT25

I’ve been buying this brand for my pups for over a year, and have been very happy with it. I spent lots of time looking into the best dog foods. My last bag that I bought about a month ago has noticeable bone bits in the kibble. The one that actually caught my attention looked like a small tooth. I am very disappointed and feel awful that my dogs have been eating from this bag for a couple of weeks before I noticed. I called Merrick and let them know but now I’m hesitant to feed another bag to my dogs.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Formula changed

erjg27

The formula changed and made our dog extremely ill with bloody diarrhea for the first time in his life. He’s been on this food for years with no problems at all. The new formula smells rancid and the kibble pieces are 1/2 cm in diameter, when the old formula was 1cm in diameter. Please be aware of the change and give it to your dog slowly if you stay with this brand. We switched to Nutro beef and brown rice slowly with a bland diet and our dog is healthy again. We called Merrick and they claimed the formula has not changed. We told them about the size of pieces and they said it must have been a manufacturer defect because they should be 1cm.

Changed formula?!?!

We’ve been feeding this food for years and have never had a problem. In the last month or so the kibble has changed and both of my dogs have digestive upset. I compared kibble from last bag to current bag and texture is different. I also have a photo I wish I could share on here. I guess we will no longer be able to use Merrick. I’ve seen several reviews from the last 2 months agreeing with this.

What is the calcium percentage?

    what size are the kibbles.

    1. The kibbles are on the smaller side.  I have 2 large dogs, but one of my cats will sneak a few bites, so they are small enough for a cat to eat!
