The Longnose Butterfly is a bright colored butterfly for fish only aquariums. They are known for getting quite large in wild, but will stay smaller in aquariums at about 9". They won't do well with fish that are overly aggressive, but they will also nip and pick at fish that are very timid. Initially, these butterflies can be shy; making sure there are plenty of hiding places will help them acclimate. Like most butterflies, we don't recommend placing the Longnose in reef aquariums because they are very likely to consume a variety of coral polyps. They have elongated snot that is half black and white, which allows them to get into crevices to feed. The rest of their body is bright yellow with a false eye by the caudal fin. The false eye confuses predators so they aim for that "eye" and it gives the butterfly a chance to get away. The dorsal fins are jagged and can get caught in nets.

ACCLIMATION: Avoid exposing new aquatic life to bright lights after opening the box. Turn off aquarium lights prior to floating aquatic life. Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. A bacteria booster addition can assist with the addition of new aquatic life. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe for the addition of new aquatic life. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried and frozen foods, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller aquariums.
