Loved this build!

This was my first build I’ve ever bought for myself. It was a great intro and the pink frogs were so fun. My only hiccup in this build would be that I went straight to the cherry blossom option and did not build the green bonsai first. Which in hindsight, would’ve helped me figure out how the leaves attached to the branches a little easier. No big deal though, I figured it out. It’s just if you are a very beginner like me and go straight to the cherry blossom build option, the picture on the instructions are very busy with the blossoms and frogs and a little hard to discern clearly how to attach the leaves to the branches. Again, easy enough to work through but thought maybe it could’ve been an improvement on the instructions to make it clearer by maybe making the leaves, blossoms, and frogs less opaque when attaching it to the branches on the tree so that you could see clearly how they attach.

Building it was a bit annoying with all the branches but it was really worth it. It looks amazing on display

As one of LEGO's first botanicals, the bonsai tree is still one of their best. I've had it for two years now, and it still makes me happy every time I look at it. While pretty repetitive, the build was still interesting, and the final tree is stunning. Despite its intricacy, it is still structurally sound, and the two foliage types are a fun bonus. The pink leaves are my favorite, and I absolutely love the 100 frogs they incorporate.

The starter for a collection on Asia travel

I had the opportunity to live in Japan and travel through parts of Asia, and during my travels I collected a number of display pieces and currency [that I framed]. When I began building botanicals few years ago, the first set I actually put together was the bonsai tree and it was through this set that I discovered enjoyment and something therapeutic about assembling the pieces in a way that has been consistent with all of the botanicals. Since then, I've incorporated a number of the botanical sets and a few other sets into a full wall display that includes set 10344 [lucky bamboo], set 10343 [mini orchid], set 10281 [bonsai tree], set 10348 [Japanese red maple bonsai], set 10373 [mini bonsai trees] and set 40725 [cherry blossoms, 4 since I've put into two small oriental vases], as well as set 10369 [plum blossom], set 10368 [chrysanthemum], set 80112 [spring festival dragon], set 80117 [spring festival good fortune], set 40756 [Chinese festival lucky knots], and set 21041 [Great Wall of China]. Lego has been developing a lot of sets that can easily display as part of world travel and highlight not only the many fascinating locations around the world but also world cultures, and although I consider myself more of a Lego "naturalist" I've been enjoying building these types of travel displays, mixing Lego creations and other items I've collected [including a smaller collection I've built based on a past travel to England]
