Best safety belt for ALL cars

Verito

I have a unique car that didn’t have a belt latch compatible with any dog leashes, nor with any headrests. This is the best solution. Having said that, a friend said that some cars potentially don’t activate the brake mechanism if the weight of the passenger is very light, so that might be an issue for a small dog. In any case that’s something out of Kurgo’s control!

Peace of Mind

With the increase in accidents and excessive speed in my area, this gives me a little peace of mind. With a small car, crating is not an option and the back seat offers the safest place to put my dog. This harness is sturdy, and once you've used it a few times putting it on is a breeze.

Perfect fit

Fits my 100 lb Bloodhound perfectly. Although I prefer the other style for ease of putting on and taking off, I still would recommend this harness. It's beefier, which, to me, makes sense for my XL dog.

So Relieved

My dogs last car harness had a plastic buckle that I noticed was breaking on Thursday. Thursday evening we almost got into a car accident one someone stopped in front of me on the highway on ramp. I had to slam on the brakes. My dog was in the front seat and she slid onto the floor. Thank God that broken buckle didn’t snap but it made me realize that even though the harness she had was comfortable, it was not high enough quality or a secure enough fit if we were to be in a real accident. I immediately bought this harness because Kurgo is such a great brand, and it was one of the only harnesses I could find that was designed specifically and only for car accident impact. It came today and it fits my box or perfectly, I got a size large. It is a little stiff so she needs to get used to it but I know she will be secure and safe and I am so glad that I ordered it. Once I got it fitted to her and on her, I was even more impressed with the quality fit and design. Thank you for working so hard to make a dog seatbelt that will protect my girl so well.

Could have been good

I bought the XL for my 95 lb dog. Should have fit with the size guide provided. However the chest plate is 4.5 inches wide where as my dog only is 3.5. The chest plate was crammed into his arms and incredibly uncomfortable looking. Paid extra for two day shipping, got it in 5 days. Overall poor experience, poor fit, and great disappointment.

We have been using this harness for several years and it's still as sturdy as when we purchased it. I feel that we're all much safer with this harness, given it's construction and strength. Highly recommend.

Poor Quality

Springer Owner

We purchased this to replace a different version that our Springer outgrew. It does work but the quality is sub-par and the straps would slip during use. We finally used tie wraps to secure the straps.

Good quality, poor/nonexistent fit on Berners

MikeBerners

Construction is excellent, very much like an arborist climbing harness. Fit: Bought the XL, for 2 Bernese Mountain Dog (85lb, 110lb). The design must have been done on the skinniest 110lb dog known to man. They need at least 6 to 12 inches more strap on each side; opening to get over the head of the smaller, not enough room to actually get a front leg through. Didn't even try on the male. At least the Enhanced Tru-Fit harness is still available and actually fits. I'd only recommend for smaller dogs.

Questions

My dog's girth is 27 inches. Is she a medium or a small. One of the reviews talked about straps slipping. I am concerned that sizing up make make it too big.

  1. I ended up not being happy with this particular seat belt harness because the straps kept slipping loose and then my dog could step right out of it while in the car! So I ended up getting a different harness. Good luck.

My chihuahua mix is just under 10lb (around 9.5lbs) will the small be too small for her?

  1. We purchased a size small for our 12 lb shihtzu and a medium for our 39 lb standard poodle. What you need to know is the distance between their legs. The broader the chest, the bigger the harness can be. For example my standard poodles legs were to close together to wear the large because the chest plate was too wide and chafed her legs. The harnesses work very well both in and out of the car, when at rest stops. The dogs appear to be comfortable and prefer them to riding in their crates. We are very happy with them. Wish they were made in bright colors, so they would be easier to distinguish from their other harnesses.

My dog is about 50 pounds and I want to say 27-30 around her chest. What size do I get?

  1. Please also measure your dog's lower neck and remeasure her chest as she is in between size medium and size large and these measurements will help guide the best choice in terms of sizing. If you need help with sizing, please contact Kurgo Customer Support directly at info@kurgo.com with her lower neck and chest measurements along with her weight and we will give you our best recommendation.

We have a bulldog puppy @ 4 months old. Weighs @23 lbs. chest girth @ 21” and neck @16”. What size harness should we get? She’s growing so fast. Thank you.

  1. Thank you for your interest in Kurgo harnesses. Unfortunately, until a dog is fully grown, there really is no good way to determine which size harness the dog might need as an adult, as it will vary based on the dog's measurements and proportions. It sounds like your pup should fit into a size medium currently, but we can't guarantee he would not grow out of it as she gets bigger.

I have a Cocker Spaniel. Right now she is 4 months old and 12 lb. She is expected to grow to approx 20 lb. Will size medium be the right fit?

  1. Hi Sandra1234, We would suggest the small. This fits dogs from 10-25 lbs. and as a girth size of 16 to 22 inches. Thanks
