Ivan seems to love it!

The bag is excellent quality and well designed. I secured the Secured bag onto my bike and my dog now loves joining us on bike rides. I like the fact he’s on his feet rather than placing stress on his spine. Because the bag is attached to the bike, he feels very safe and secure.

Great Backpack, its now my main pack

Aily

I love this backpack and use it all the time, I've had it for 3 months now and its gone with me on a couple of flights as well as many bike rides and hikes and even a 10k. I chose the red one for extra visibility. I also like that I have a spot for my laptops, and his water bottle. I ride with him tethered in with the strap on a safe no-escape harness. I would however pay twice as much for the exact same backpack if i could get it with sturdier materials. Instead of a plastic bottom with fiberglass rods something stiffer that could handle if I fell off my bike and kept him from being potentially crushed, like a safety roll cage, but I haven't found anything yet that offers that level of stability.

Works well for carrying small dog on your front

Northern Lights

This is a well designed unit that works front or back ( thanks to the keeper strap) , I agree from others the size of the hip padding could be made more substantial but for small dogs like ours who is about 6 lbs it works fine and she enjoys it. We purchase it as our Yorkshire terrier went blind at 32 months old, and we needed something she would be secure in wearing it on your front or your back.

Small dachshund friendly

This is the first backpack I've found that my miniature dachshund could sit in comfortably. Most carriers for them are shoulder bag style. This backpack allows her to sit up with a little support and has saved us multiple times when we hike farther than her little legs can take her.

If you are taking a small dog (e.g. <20 lbs) for short periods, very occasionally, the G-Train may be okay. The G-Train is NOT designed for regular use carrying a dog >20 lbs for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. I use the G-Train 3-4 times per wk, including 10 min bike rides to/from trailheads, with my miniature poodle (24 lbs). Despite adjustments and multiple repairs, the pack is very uncomfortable and falling apart in <1.5 years. (It is less comfortable than a well designed, 75 lb expedition pack.) WEAK DESIGN: The skimpy hip belt and shoulder strap design doesn't allow the dog's weight to be put on your hips. The shallow, gaping side pockets don't accommodate even small water bottles (despite promotional pics). WEAK CONSTRUCTION: Many key seams are single stitched and failed/pulled apart: straps, handle, an inside pocket sewn onto really thin textile without any reinforcement…. Multiple broken components: zip track for dog's head/window, multiple buckles, zip tabs, sternum strap… REDEEMING FEATURES: This may be okay, perhaps v good for occasional use for <20 lb dog for short trips. It looks great and there are good features, e.g. generous zipped 2nd/storage pocket; ample rugged mesh vents, the big half moon zip for dog and storage pocket has a very robust zip (in contrast to the poor quality window zip). There is a great need for a good dog backpack. With some design modifications and more rugged construction/materials, the G-Train could be good. Ditch the branded buckles for replaceable ones. To accommodate 20 to 25 lbs or 30, an additional size would be needed.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. We're so sorry to see that your pack has been damaged. It is important to mention that this pack is recommended for dogs up to 25 lbs., so it would not be recommended for dogs 25-30 lbs. We do apologize for any misunderstanding. It is, however, very sturdy, and should be a good fit for your 24 lb. pup; the damage you have described is very unusual during normal use within such a short period of time. We would love to speak with you about this directly to see how this might have occurred and what we can do to help. Please get in touch with our customer care team here- https://www.kurgo.com/contact-us Our phone hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 7 P.M. EST, and our chat hours are Monday through Saturday 9 A.M. – 9 P.M. EST.

Excellent quality, great looking and comfortable for both, dog and owner! We have two dachshunds and they travel everywhere with us. Bought two rucksacks and the LOVE them! One did not want to leave the rucksack from the moment he got it. :) The rucksack is also comfortable to carry and can be adjusted to your size and posture. Highly recommended to all small dog owners who want to make their dog comfortable on long journeys or in bad weather.

I have a 22 lb. dachshund.  Would he be tall enough to stick his head out of the opening?

  1. Thank you for your great question, Emm. The K9 Rucksack is about 121" tall, and it is about 15 inches from the base of the inside to the opening. You can use this measurement to see if this will be a good option for your dog.

Has anyone with the black backpack experienced it getting too hot with the sun? I'm afraid that the backpack will get hot and then my dog will get hot.

  1. I have a small black dog and got the black bag, it doesn't get too hot. I also use a cooling band for my dog and threw an ice pack in there under some padding.

What are the two small rods used for.

  1. Thank you for this question, Kirk! These rods can be used for additional stabilization. Instructions on how to do this can be found in the instruction guide that comes with the pack. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us. Our number is 1-877-847-3868, and our hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 8 P.M. EST and Saturdays 9 A.M.- 5 P.M. EST.

Is this a good pick for a French bull dog puppy?

  1. This is a great question! The Kurgo Dog G-Train K9 Black Backpack is wonderful for pet up to 25 pounds, including a new puppy.

Is this black one the same as the red one? The only difference I see is the weight: the black one is 3.14lbs and the red is 3.09lbs. If they are different, what are the differences?

  1. Thank you for your great question. The only difference between the two different G-Train K9 backpacks is the color.

Does this meet airline requirements for ventilation and sliding under the seat?

  1. Thank you for your great question. For the best answer to your question, it will be best to consult TSA and the airline you plan on flying with.

does this have a pocket I could put my laptop in as well?  And is this suitable for a 10 lb Yorke or would he be lost in it?

  1. I have a 5 lb Chihuahua and she loves it! It’s like a luxurious apartment for her but if she gets tired or sleepy she can take a nap in there. It has been working great for us! We highly recommend it!
