Small dachshund friendly

This is the first backpack I've found that my miniature dachshund could sit in comfortably. Most carriers for them are shoulder bag style. This backpack allows her to sit up with a little support and has saved us multiple times when we hike farther than her little legs can take her.

So far I have loved the ease of this backpack and my pup loves it too! I have a golden doodle puppy and got this for introducing her to hikes while she is still growing. Currently she is about 20lbs, and will be getting bigger. I've had this bag since I got her and it has been a lifesaver during our trips. There is plenty of room in the main compartment for my pup, however the only thing I would change would be the zippers. The zipper pulls often come off of the zipper which makes it difficult to close the backpack. I mainly use the pack as a simple to and from for our hikes. If you're looking for a pack that can take a couple items for your pup and carry your pup if needed, this is a great option, however if you're looking to set out on an adventure and carry all that your pup would need for a day+ I'd look into getting something a little bigger.

Works well enough, but has some issues. The support rods just won't stay in place, so I'm always worried that they will poke our dog. It has been on 3 airplane trips and is already starting to fray a bit. Works well enough, but not something I would recommend.

Good structure

I really like the set up and structure of this back pack. The supports to keep it from collapsing in on your dog are great. There are vents on the side but my Frenchie did get over heated on a moderately hot day and it was a short walk. I'm hoping we just have to take it easy in the summer and she'll be comfortable the rest of the year. The shoulder straps are comfortable and over all I am very pleased with my purchase.

This is exactly what you need if you enjoy hiking, but your little dog can't quite keep up. My 10lb Poochon will sit happily (after lots of training with chicken) in the backpack and take in the scenery while we tote him around. It's the only dog carrier I've found with serious comfort for people, as well as dogs. The design is great- provides great support all around and is even comfortable when empty!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Awesome for Hiking with Pets

Holly B

I have tried several pet backpacks, and most are not actually designed for hiking. This one is considerably more comfortable for the hiker. I like that it also has a hard, flat (but rounded) bottom, which is both comfortable for the pet and the person. The tether inside is also in a good location so that the pet doesn't get tangled easily. I highly recommend. I'd just add the suggestion to Kurgo to add a water bottle sleeve on the side or small storage pouch.

Questions

1 - 7 of 7 Questions

I have a 22 lb. dachshund.  Would he be tall enough to stick his head out of the opening?

  1. Thank you for your great question, Emm. The K9 Rucksack is about 121" tall, and it is about 15 inches from the base of the inside to the opening. You can use this measurement to see if this will be a good option for your dog.

Has anyone with the black backpack experienced it getting too hot with the sun? I'm afraid that the backpack will get hot and then my dog will get hot.

  1. I have a small black dog and got the black bag, it doesn't get too hot. I also use a cooling band for my dog and threw an ice pack in there under some padding.

What are the two small rods used for.

  1. Thank you for this question, Kirk! These rods can be used for additional stabilization. Instructions on how to do this can be found in the instruction guide that comes with the pack. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us. Our number is 1-877-847-3868, and our hours are Monday through Friday 8 A.M.- 8 P.M. EST and Saturdays 9 A.M.- 5 P.M. EST.

Is this a good pick for a French bull dog puppy?

  1. This is a great question! The Kurgo Dog G-Train K9 Black Backpack is wonderful for pet up to 25 pounds, including a new puppy.

Is this black one the same as the red one? The only difference I see is the weight: the black one is 3.14lbs and the red is 3.09lbs. If they are different, what are the differences?

  1. Thank you for your great question. The only difference between the two different G-Train K9 backpacks is the color.

Does this meet airline requirements for ventilation and sliding under the seat?

  1. Thank you for your great question. For the best answer to your question, it will be best to consult TSA and the airline you plan on flying with.

does this have a pocket I could put my laptop in as well?  And is this suitable for a 10 lb Yorke or would he be lost in it?

  1. I have a 5 lb Chihuahua and she loves it! It’s like a luxurious apartment for her but if she gets tired or sleepy she can take a nap in there. It has been working great for us! We highly recommend it!
