Rat cage

Lovely home for the new fur babies. Only problem we had was one side of the ramp didn't snap correctly. It was fixable though.

Yes, I recommend this product.

My rat ate the cage.

Purchased this cage for an adopted rat since it’s specifically for rats. In less than a week, the rat chewed straight through the cage and is gone.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Horrible product do not buy rats will chew thru it

Limitless070813

Completely worthless and a waste of money, definitely shouldn’t cost what they charge either, I might pay $5 for one as an emergency for a couple hours use even then I don’t trust it, I’ve had two of these cages chewed thru very fast, the first lasted a week, the second lasted about 6 hours before my pet rat chewed thru the cage bottom and got out. Anger that I bought 2 at the same time as o wanted to be able to swap to the other while I cleaned one. Now I’m out almost $200 bucks and have 2 cages with holes thru them, even if I could patch the holes she would chew through it again in a few hours. Horrible horrible product. Please don’t buy if you care for your pet and buy a better product maybe if your rat or hamster is toothless it’d be ok. But even then they still got claws and my ray left plenty of claw scratches on it to so goes to show how weak the plastic is

No, I do not recommend this product.

Complete garbage

Adamooshky

Worse than trash. It's harmful. None of the pieces fit together, like whoever designed this just eyeballed it and "said good enough." I do not trust the quality of the food bowl, either. There's a shiny film at the bottom of it. This is worth a lawsuit if I had the time.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great in some ways, annoying to connect to bottom

Johnny202

The way the cage connects to the bottom pan is frustrating and more difficult than other designs. The deep bottom is the best part. The low cage-height is perfect for babies or older, sicker rats.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Latching system fails, ramp doesn't attach

The latch on the door requires sticking your fingers into the cage where the ratties have access to biting them! Einstein likes the ramp but we will soon need to upgrade. Fine for one small adolescent at most. Good for a temporary enclosure.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Beware of plastic cage bottom

Chatty Cathy 76

I have had a great experience with Kaytee rat cages in the past, However my two young boy rats were able to chew through the plastic where the wire upper cage portion attaches to the plastic cage bottom and they both escaped. I ended up getting a wire pan/upper metal cage and they have not escaped since.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Thank you for taking the time to pass along your feedback. We&#39;ll make sure to share this with the proper team. We also would advise ensuring that your pet rat has plenty of chew toy options in his or her habitat to keep them occupied. <img src="https://s3.amazonaws.com/stratos-logos/logos/kayteepets.png" alt="kayteepets" title="kayteepets" style="display: block !important; margin-top: 2em !important; border: 1px solid #ccc !important; padding: 2px !important; background-color: white !important;" /> <!--[if ReviewResponse]><![endif]-->

would this be big enough for one teddy bear hamster

  1. Hi there! We wouldn't recommend this for a hamster. One great option is our CritterTrail habitat for your hamster. This will allow an endless amount of room for your hamster to explore, as this can be connected to other CritterTrail habitats!

Do you think that the bar spacing would be small enough for a gerbil.

  1. No. Gerbils chew through plastic so easily. I recommend getting a very very large fish tank (at least 40 gallons but bigger is better)

Is the bar spacing good enough for two female mice?

  1. Not at all. Just buy looking, I'm going to say that my mice would be able to get out without even squeezing.

How wide is the bar spacing?

  1. The bars are 1/2 Inch apart.

would this be okay for 2 rats to live in comfortably ?! if not, any recommendations that aren’t too expensive ?!? :) TIA!

  1. It's not large enough for 2 adult rats. 2 juveniles maybe. Rule of thumb is 2 cubic feet of space per rat. It's also not ideal for long term use with rats as the plastic base is easily chewed through.

Would this be a good habitat for a normal hamster

  1. Depends on what you mean by "normal". There is no such thing as "normal", for hamsters or for anything else. Because my mind is naturally geared towards Dwarf hamsters, I'm going to assume that that's what you're talking about. Unfortunately, this is only 306 square inches, which is not suitable. Plus, if your hamster is an escape artist (I'm not sure what that's like as all of mine are just like, "yeah, whatever") then he/she will probably escape from 1/2 bar spacing.

Could this work for a hedgehog?

  1. This would be a great habitat!

Would this work for a hedgehog?(I am willing to do some DIYing to this cage)

  1. Too small. I recommend 500 inches of floorspace as a minimum for selecting a hedgie cage. Taller (for the wheel) guinea pig cages are a great option!

Would this work for a chinchilla?

  1. This may not be large for a chinchilla. We do offer a Complete Chinchilla kit! https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/small-animal/small-animal-cages-habitats/kaytee-complete-chinchilla-kit

will this work for a short haired hamster

  1. It can if your Hamster is older and almost full Grown I've had my Syrian Hamster or Short Haired Haired Hamster in a cage with 1/ 2 inch bar spacing but it's better to use at least a 40 gallon Breeder tank because they do Run a lot and they tend to chew the bars as well and they can break they're teeth
