A nice addition to Timothy Hay!

My Big Wabbit, Mokita finds the Orchard grass a nice addition to his Timothy Hay. I would say the Timothy is his go-to, but he likes to break it up some. All the Kaytee products are great. They always seem fresh and of high quality.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not good hay

I bought this for my chinchilla and guinea pigs cause I ran out of my Oxbow and this is all the store had at the time. Piggies and Chinchilla didn't really care for it. They ate it cause didn't have a chose, but it was hardly ever touched. I know sometime they can be picky, but to have all of them not eat it. Says alot. It was very straw like ,very dusty. I'm going back to Oxbow hay. I know they love it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My Syrian loves this stuff! He pulls it all around his cage and mixes it with his bedding and snacks on it. It adds a natural feel to his cage and it lasts a long time for him.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had purchased this previously for bunnies and guinea pigs and was happy with it. I bought it again for our hamster and it's still the same good quality. I put some in his cage for him to burrow in, play with and nibble on. He doesn't eat a lot of it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We got this for our small pets and they loved it. our guinea pig was over the moon with this grass. She has never had this before and ended up devouring it when we introduced her to it. It has a very fresh earthy aroma which I personally liked. It comes in a bulky size for a great price and our pets enjoyed it so we will be back for more when done.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Gave this to my pet rabbit who is sooo picky with his hay. When I gave him just a few strands of this, he went crazy and devoured all of it! Most of the strands in the bag were long and full pieces which is so hard to find.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My girl Mavis (She's a chinchilla) loves this hay! I like to mix different types of hay to mix up her diet, this is one of her favorites. It's quite a large bag, for sure worth the money. I had it delivered, it came quickly and was packaged well.

Questions

1 - 8 of 8 Questions
Sort by: Newest Answers

Why do all the different types of hay have different descriptions?

  1. Because each type of hay comes from a different plant. They have different nutrients, textures, and moisture content.

can i use this for baby macaw that just hatched from egg for nesting

  1. Hi there, you can use it, but if you are purchasing specifically for the nest box, you may be better suited for our Clean & Cozy. Clean & Cozy is very low dust and is also very absorbent. If you have any further questions/concerns, please feel free to reach out to our Consumer Care team at 1-800-529-8331!

Will this hay help if a person is allergic to the Timothy hay that their guinea pigs eat?

  1. Orchard grass and Oat hay we’re what I give my chinchillas since I am highly allergic to Timothy hay. They love it and have no issues. I also have it to my guinea pigs when I had them.  You just have to make sure you still give them plenty of Timothy hay pellets to help with a healthy balance. Watch for wet tail as can happen when switching them over. Avoid alphalfa- it can be to caloric for them long term.

Can dwarf hamsters eat  this product

  1. Yup!

Is this good for baby rabbits 2months old? I know they need at least 16% protein, but I hear this type of hay is really good for people with allergies causing asthmatic type symptoms

  1. Yes, the Orchard Grass is fine for a 2 month old rabbit.

I cant afford timothy hay what is a good cheap hay i could afford?

  1. Try a farm supply store, where you can buy a small bale of timothy hay at a very reasonable price. Also, if you have a bunny rescue organization in your area, they may sell hay as well.

Is this Orchard Grass safe for use as nesting material for finches?

  1. Yes it is very safe my finches love it..

Does Kaytee Orchard Grass get spread on the floor of the cage with the bedding or go in a food dish?

  1. I put this into a hay feeder. I don't see what I'm using on Petco's site, but it is similar to their Super Pet Hay Buffet. It keeps the hay mostly in one area and things seem a bit tidier. As far as I know you can just put it into a pile on the floor, but I prefer the feeder. I also used cable ties to attach cardboard to the back of the feeder so that less hay falls out of the cage.
