I purchased this cage for 2 rats and will be returning it because I hate it. The hooks that connect the sides are positioned so that they create a large gap along the entire length from bottom to top of each corner. The wire itself bends rather easily in places also creating gaps. Be warned if you use any tools as the instructions suggest, to manipulate any bent pieces, the coating is easily chipped off even with a light hand. Getting the sides together is easier if done on a hard surface but taking them apart leads to swearing. Also, thanks to some sharp edges of wire, both my daughter and I snagged our jeans so wear clothes you don't care about. The icing on the cake had to be the safety ramps that were horribly made. The thin piece of plastic on the ramp right by its braces is so incredibly weak that it was bending as I was trying to secure it to the shelf and immediately showed white stress lines. The end of the ramps didn't "rest" on the shelf or cage floor but floated several inches above. Also, I wouldn't trust the latches on the doors since they are the kind that rely on the bendiness of the cage wire to "secure" them.

This is a fantastic starter cage for a first-time rat owner! It is a very nice cage. Pros: Deep base for bedding, 2 big doors, shelves that are easy to attach, 1/2 inch bar spacing, and it is very easy to clean! this cage could probably house up to 4 rats, I used this cage with my 3 small rats, and was a really good fit, as long as you take them out to play.

it would have been perfect for my two girls, this was cage 2 of 3. the bar spacing was perfect the bottom was awsome too, untill they decied to chew it and destryed the bottom.

After ordering this cage, I almost canceled because I was afraid it wasn't big enough for the price. But I was wrong! Its perfect size, and it looks nice. I was afraid his giant 12" wheel wouldn't fit, but it does. I also have his bed, jungle gym, and a hammock hanging from the top. He didnt chew through his other plastic cage, so I hope he doesn't with this one. Some reviews say its hard to put together. But I had no problems. I honestly didn't even have to read the instructions. The only thing that I noticed about the cage was that some of the bars were bent, but nothing I couldn't easily fix. Overall I'm very happy with this purchase. If anything changes, I'll be sure to update.
