We switched to making the chicken & rice recipe for our 9 year old Golden since May 2025 due Pyloric Stenosis, stricture of the stomach. She could not eat kibble anymore and previously we did our best to help her lose weight with no success. Since making her food and using the nutrient blend from Just food for dogs she has lost 13lbs, she looks great, and you can tell she is feeling alot better and acting younger. We will continue to make the chicken & rice recipe for all our future doggies. It's alot of work (we make aboput 100 lbs at a time that lasts about 6-8 weeks) but worth it.

My dog had stopped eating so a friend gave us a pretty expensive bag of another brand and he was enjoying it but it was much too pricey so we decided to find a recipe to make and I was happy to find a company that provided the recipe and sold the nutrient blend to supplement because I knew he needed more than just what others were suggesting. He approves and is eating well very now.

Only Beef for My Pups!

While I didn't eat it myself, the dogs ate the chicken and that's it. They mostly enjoy the beef and that's what I'm feeding them. I have noticed that their poops are looking better, which is probably from the new food source. I have also been to the website reading articles. When I'm ready, I think I'm just going to give them beef.

Ultra low fat/ high protein small batch with 3oz feedings right now fighting for life. Needs another draining soon. Five months post dx. Grateful for your nutrient packs, to which I add quercetin, addt’l D complex, K2, and Rx probiotics. Prognosis poor.

Our dogs simply love your recipes. The chicken and rice was a bit dry, but you wouldn't know it by the way our dogs enjoyed it. They simply loved the ground beef and potatoes.

Questions

Does this mix tell you how much of the meat and vegetables to use per package? Im wanting to try this but i didn't see anywhere that stated how much meat and vegetables to use per package?

  1. Yup! There is a recipe card you can download that tells you exactly how much to use of what. I find a food processor and instant pot the easiest way to cook everything.

Does this contain taurine?

  1. It is not listed as an ingredient.

Can you please send me the instant pot and crackpot recipes for all of the DIY canister dog food recipes?

  1. Scroll down for the link to a pdf file: https://www.justfoodfordogs.com/product/do-it-yourself-nutrient-blend-chicken/60030102.html

Could you send me the Crock Pot recipe for the CHICKEN and RICE for DIY Kit? Also, can you substitute Chicken Breast for some of the Chicken Legs or Thighs in Recipe?

  1. You probably need to contact Just Food 4 Dogs directly to get those answers. (949) 722-3647 or (866) 423-9405. They are open 7 days a week.

Can blueberries be substituted for the apple in the chicken formula? How long can the DYI food be kept in the freezer? Can you send me the crock pot recipe?

  1. I didn't think there could be substitutions. I would guess how long is lasts in the freezer depends on how well it's packaged. Wish I had the crock pot recipe also. I would imagine you were hoping for a response from the manufacturer.

I got the chicken and rice canister. Can I substitute the rice for quinoa? I do not believe starch is good for dogs.

  1. Contact Just Food For Dogs directly about that. They are very responsive. I use the Chicken and Rice and the Turkey and Noodle. I do mix things up a bit depending on available ingredients. https://www.justfoodfordogs.com/contact-us/

We are using our Instapot, cooking the large recipe for three pups every other day. I noticed someone asked a question above regarding a specific recipe that is available for that appliance. Could you please send that along?

  1. https://gallery.mailchimp.com/50f92c38c7d41e6dc55d1b84d/files/ec6d294b-7609-4f42-be40-63617ee0db3f/JustFoodForDogs_DIY_Cooking_Recipe_Instructions_for_Instapot_Slowcooker_v1019.pdf?utm_campaign=News%20Welcome%20Series%20-%20Email%201%20%28Ns24Z7%29&utm_medium=email&utm_source=OPTIN%20-%20Cook%20Day%20Download&_ke=eyJrbF9lbWFpbCI6ICJjaGVyaWVsYWRhbXNAeWFob28uY29tIiwgImtsX2NvbXBhbnlfaWQiOiAiTXY5QVg2In0%3D

The JustFoodForDogs Chicken and White Rice recipe is very similar to a recipe I have been using and supplement with organic turmeric and powdered egg shells.  Does the calcium in this blend meet the daily requirement?

  1.  This is completely balanced to AAFCO standards for every nutrient dogs need as long as you follow the recipe perfectly!

can this be used with other DIY dog food recipes or this specific recipe?

  1. My dog didn’t like the fish recipe. My husband also didn’t like how cooking the fish smelled up the house. So I asked JustFoodForDogs fish would be close to balanced with another recipe, just to use it up some other way. It did not get a personalized reply. Just a it won’t be balance with any other recipe. They did send me a free DYI chicken (my dog’s favorite).

Can you freeze the food you make?

  1. Absolutely! I make the full batches according to the recipe included in the canister and it is enough for two medium (50 lb) dogs to last for a bout 7 days worth of dinners. I only feed this as a meal (2 cups each dog) once a day but have dry food available at other times. I keep a couple of days worth of food in the fridge and freeze the rest in measured bowls. I take out a freezer bowl every time I use up a bowl from the fridge. Good Luck, my dogs absolutely love their much healthier home made food!
