The best. My cats love this and don’t have any problems digesting this. I always have issues with them throwing up their food. This one is great and they love it

I used this food for months and then all the sudden they changed and ingredient and my 14 year cat will not touch it. It is very obvious there was a change of ingredients because the food was darker and smelled way fishier than it was previously. I called and someone told me that there was a changed ingredient and they did have some complaints and were trying to go back. So I waited a bit then called back and a different girl tried to lie and say nothing changed at all. Completely lied to me and acted like i was crazy. I tried 3 more times and my cat won’t touch. I even got some from Petco that was the old batch they had left over and the color was noticeably lighter and the fishy smell was not there. It now smells like it has been sitting for few days right when you open it, my cat will throw up and just avoid it now. I’ve been struggling to find anything my cat will eat now. His health has seriously deteriorated and I’m just upset that I can’t find another service for fresh cat food. They all suck. I was such a promoter of this food before this happened. We are still suffering today.

No, I do not recommend this product.

None of my 4 cats would touch this. Two of my cats normally eat anything but did not want this at all. Waste of money and this is not cheap!

No, I do not recommend this product.

A game changer for my cat!

I started buying Just Food for Cats after a sales rep recommended it. My cat is 14 years old and had become very picky about her food and was vomiting frequently. I started her on this food and she loves it! And she rarely vomits now. What a bonus!

Yes, I recommend this product.

The only thing my cat will eat now

So glad to find Just Food For Cats at my local PetCo! My 13 year old cat was very picky, so we had to circulate between about 5 different brands and recipes of food. He would suddenly love one kind, so we’d buy more of it, and then after a couple days he’d be sick of it. All this transitioning led to a lot of wasted food he would decide he no longer wanted, and caused digestion issues. I tried Just Food For Cats and I kid you not, this super picky cat who gets sick of food after a few days has ONLY been eating this for several weeks now. I was worried at first since the brand only has one recipe for cats (they have more for dogs), but he absolutely loves it! I even notice his fur and coat has become way more full, fluffy, and healthy—little bald patches (on his… heels? back elbows?) have even grown in! It’s a bit pricey but totally worth it for a healthy meal of real ingredients that my cat really enjoys.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Her fav food EVER. Tip: try serving it cool!

We have a formerly semi-feral (barn cat) who we think spent most of her 10 years outdoors and supplementing food provided by humans with hunted/caught food. She's still very active and playful, like a younger cat, is 7 lbs. and our vet recommended she eat the standard 200 cal./day. Short story: she LOVES this, and it's the only food that gets her to leave us alone when cooking/eating meat. She has no teeth, and it makes a mess when she eats, so we put a pile on a thin plastic cutting board on the floor, and she gobbles it up. You can thaw and refreeze once to portion it out. On a 200 calorie/day diet, we portion out 4 oz. of this, to allow 40 cal. for churus and special treats. Texture-wise, if you heat it up fully, the tapioca makes it sticky almost like a pate. BUT if you defrost it just to the point it's cool, it retains a texture somewhat like flaked tuna, and may be easier for them to eat. She loves it this way. She regurgitates most solid food, but this doesn't bother her at all. More context/feedback: She was injured and ended up in a shelter, and has been with us a little over 3 months now. When she first came home with us, she'd eat anything. Once she realized food was not scarce, and she was safe, she got picky, LOL. She had most teeth removed for disease at the shelter, so they wanted her on soft food, and after trying many options, she settled on Tiki Cats Mousse. But lately, she's been rejecting her food or eating only a little despite a healthy appetite (i.e., she'll jump on the counter/table and obsessively go after our food so her appetite is fine, and she'll eat it greedily given the opportunity.) I found the texture changes quite a bit when heated. In the frozen state, it looks dry and almost like flaked tuna. It stays that way - "dry" - as long as it's not actually heated up. Once warm, the tapioca makes the texture sticky/creamy, like a pate. Unlike a pate, I've not had as much success mixing with water to make a smoother "mousse" texture like the Tiki product that she has been eating. She also rejected the food when it had additional water. She prefers it still a bit cold/cool, when the texture is crumbly. I'm not sure if the fact that she has only 2 teeth left (one top and one bottom fang) means she tolerates or likes the cool/cold temperature more than other cats. The first time we served it, she stuffed her face, licked the mat clean, and then did something she's NEVER done after eating, which is walked herself upstairs to her room, climbed in her cat condo and fell sound asleep. We laughed, it was like after eating a big Thanksgiving dinner, how everyone falls asleep. :) If you're already feeding your kitty a natural or premium product from Royal Canin, Tiki, Blue Buffalo, Hill's Science Diet, etc., the cost is similar. NOTE on the SMELL: the ingredients include sardines and cod. The product smells very stinky to humans, but as someone who grew up fishing and eating fish, the smell isn't 'rotten meat', it's 'oily fish'. That's actually something that many cats will love - but if you have a cat raised in a home who's only eaten commercial food, they may not be interested in this. Sardines are a sustainable fish, and deliver superior nutrition - but no way around the fact they're 'odiferous' :-D

Yes, I recommend this product.

Healthier option than canned wet foods

My cat prefers this instead of canned wet foods. When I am at the fridge she goes beside my feet thinking that I am getting this food for her even not 😁. I gave 4 stars because I prefer buying a bigger portion package like what they have for dogs but they don’t have it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

my cat loves this but she seems to have an allergy to fish. I have to give her all kinds of other things so she won’t vomit. Is there just a chicken recipe from this brand that anyone has seen anywhere? Thank you.

  1. Unfortunately there is only one recipe available at stores/vets. But, you can contact the company directly and they can make a blend for you of the vitamins & minerals and give you the recipe so you know how much protein to mix it with.

Cooked meat depletes the taurine. Do they add taurine supplement in the recipe?Cats need taurine in their diet.

  1. According to JF4D in chat, the chicken heart provides it.

So if this single package is $13.95 for an 18 oz package, and my cat is 12 lbs, and the feeding instructions say to feed her (based on her weight) 7 oz a day, then this single package would last about 2.5 days, correct?

  1. Hi, I think this really depends on the individual & your vet's recommendations. Our 11 pound cat goes through 1 package in 4 days in order to maintain his weight (we cut it into 12 pieces). If we feed him more (closer to what the package recommends), it is too much food and he gains weight. I've noticed this with other pet foods - they seem to recommend more than our cats need, even though our cats are very active.

What if you don't feed your cat this food exclusively? Can you serve one meal of this and the rest of the day the other options? If the cat does not eat the whole portion recommended, how do you split the recommended amount per day?

  1. I divide mine in four sections white frozen and thaw out one at a time.  I feed two meals per day and leave Science Diet ZD dry food out for her too.  She has IBD but does very well on this combination and she loves the food,

Does it have taurine in it? I don't see it listed, and cats need taurine

  1. Chicken hearts, chicken liver and chicken thighs all contain taurine. This is fresh, and very nutritious food!

Once opened, how long before it goes bad? I have 3 cats, so I imagine I won't have a problem with that issue, but what is the best way to store it after opened? Tupperware container? Been wanting to change my cats diets to something much better for them.

  1. I have a large cat so he always finishes his food within a week. The food stays very fresh within that time, kept in a glass storage container with a lid. I wouldn't store it thawed longer than that though since it is fresh, preservative free. I highly recommend the food.

What is going on with stock for this food? It's the only food my IBS cat and will eat. It's out of stock everywhere. Even the company website shows it out of stock.

  1. Company is having issues with obtaining the fish used in this recipe. I’ve been using this food also but I’m being told it will be back in stock later this week or the beginning of next.

HELP! My 13+ year old kitty has multiple health problems (kidney failure, heart murmur and thyrold issues). I need a food that is low in protein (below 7%) and low in phosphorus. Can I feed him this Real Food for Cats?

  1. Open Farm's harvest chicken wet food is 7%.

Can anyone tell me how much you feed a pet?

What is the suggested serving amount? I have 3 cats, and I am trying to figure out how much I would need to feed them, and if it is going to be more cost effective to go another route, possibly freeze dried.

    1. I saw in the fine print it says to feed from 1/4 to 1/2 cup for every five pounds of weight. However, it didn't list how many calories that was nor how often to feed. If you look at the pictures and swipe to the fourth picture, you'll see the company's service number to call for help. I personally haven't tried this food for my cats, but was checking it out and saw the feeding guidelines. I don't feed fish to my cats and seaweed is questionable for reasons of thyroid disease, so it's a no go.
