Description

Please note that the product information displayed is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and other third parties and is not independently verified by Petco.

We gave our classic Chicken & Rice recipe a glow-up! We added gut-friendly prebiotic known to support a balanced, diverse microbiome and healthy immune system. We also replaced fish oil with flaxseed and microalgae oil, two more sustainable sources of omega-3s. Algae oil in particular is highly bioavailable. Its active ingredients are utilized by the body more effectively, providing high-quality nutritional support to promote and maintain healthy skin and coat. This gluten-free recipe is the perfect combination of nutrient-dense chicken thighs, brown rice, kale, carrots, apples, and chicken liver. It's higher in calcium and phosphorus, making it perfect for growing puppies, and is nutritionally balanced for the long-term feeding of both puppies and adult dogs.

Sick Dog

Chica1234

My dog threw up and had yellow diarrhea after eating this food. I refreezed it and fed her a bit more than usual. I’m not sure if that’s what got her sick, but I’m not putting her back on this food. She always had unhealthy looking stools. I also had to pay $800 in vet bills. I cook her food now and she is doing much better.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Top quality!

I purchased this because there was a delay with my fresh food delivery and it is just as good as the top name companies. I tried three of the recipes and my dog loved all of them. I’m so glad Petco offers this so I didn’t have to disrupt his diet too much. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to try fresh food.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Only 1oz caused diarrhea.

This gave my dog diarrhea. For breakfast I tried 3.5oz as a topper (dog weights 44 pounds). Water diarrhea just a couple hours later. I decided to try a slower transition, so only gave 1oz as a topper for dinner. Caused diarrhea again 5 hours later. If you want to try this product - I definitely recommend a slow introductory transition. But I will be returning this product.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Ingredient list changed?

I got the Chicken and Rice. My dogs like it, but the ingredients shown on the website are different from what is listed on the package. The website lists chicken, white rice, brown rice, liver, kale, carrots, apples. My package lists, chicken thigh, white rice, spinach, carrots, apple, gizzard, liver, no brown rice and no kale. This is misleading.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Looks and smells like homemade dog food after thaw

AmyLovesCookie

My 12-lb shihtzu loved the chicken and rice meal so much, she licked the bowl. I purchased one 18 oz. package as a “sample” directly from my local store, and it looked as expected. It smelled good after it thawed and it was easy to loosen up with a spoon. The main thing is - it’s not slimey or gooey like most canned dog food. This meal looks and smells “home made.” I plan to mix this fresh food with Honest Kitchen kibble, so an 18 oz bag would last at least a week and a half, so I might try to slice a frozen package in half to keep in the freezer.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Not enough nutrients

Not enough nutrients. It’s mostly rice. A canine needs more meat than the portion given as well as a mix of other vegetables.

No, I do not recommend this product.

The next best thing to “people food”

Little Brother

I wanted to get some fresh, healthy food for my dog without signing up for a subscription mail service. Our dog is a very picky eater and he does not have any teeth. This food is easy for him to chew and swallow while still giving the illusion that I am serving him “people food.” We serve it on a plate and microwave it for 10 seconds to warm it up. Of course, it is a little extra work to prepare because it has to thaw in the fridge for 24 hours before you can serve it. It is our dog’s favorite dog food.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Why is this recipe so green? It looks nothing like the pictures.

I have a small dog around 19# how many ounces would I feed him per day (morning & evening) from your fresh frozen 18oz packages. Also can I mix and match per case on 3 of your varieties

Hello, you have mentioned so much about dog food and everything we ever wanted to know including questions and answers..... My question is, why nothing mentioned about what food is best for puppies, ages 8 weeks up to a year ?

      1. Its great for any age!

I was told that JFFD had dry food already in the mix is that true? If not should I add ? Thank you my Madison LOVES THE CHICKEN & RICE !!!

I have a Dane/Mastiff mix, maybe part gazelle, 18 months olds, 134 lbs. what would a daily feeding be?

        1. My Great Dane ate a full 72 oz package (over 3 meals a day) until she turned three; now I have cut back 25% per day. She is strong and healthy. I like to add a little Omega 3 daily as well. I have been ordering directly from the manufacturer. Same price

is it good for weight loss?

        1. As long as you feed the amount reflected for your dog's ideal weight. JFFD has done a great job calculating Kcals per ounces unlike other dog food. I find it easier to track my dogs macros when using JFFD products.

How do you thaw part of it and freeze the rest? It’s impossible to cut when it’s frozen and it says it’s only good for up to 5 days once thawed.

        1. When I first get it I usually let it sit out for about an hour. It’s still frozen but not solid. I then slice the block into 6 smaller blocks using a serrated knife and put them in ziplocks. I’ll put one in the fridge to thaw and the rest in the freezer.

Both of my dogs are 75lbs. How much of this do I feed them each day? I am currently giving them 1 cup of kibble twice a day.

        1. Please use the feeding guideline in the link below. Not sure your giving your dog enough food daily. This will help. https://www.justfoodfordogs.com/?keyword=just%20for%20dogs&campaign=branded&affiliateid=4&gclid=Cj0KCQjwjrvpBRC0ARIsAFrFuV92PuEX87t3vyMmwlMQFSuU2J4SB4f_xdum2_pOvnbpbRYBIJN-4CkaAmKYEALw_wcB
