Ideal feeding amounts will vary by age, weight, and activity level so the guide below should be used as an initial recommendation. Divide the cups per day by the number of feedings per day. Be sure to always provide clean, fresh water. Along with dry food, we recommend feeding raw or wet food to help increase the amount of water in your pet's diet. Daily Feeding Guidelines (standard 8 oz dry measuring cup): Adult Maintenance (cups per day): 5 lb: 3/8 cup; 10 lb: 5/8 cup; 15 lb: 7/8 cup, Weight Loss (cups per day): 5 lb: 1/4 cup; 10 lb: 3/8 cup; 15 lb: 5/8 cup, Kittens: Feed up to twice the adult maintenance amount. Pregnant/Nursing Females: Feed up to three times the adult maintenance amount shown above. Transitioning to Instinct: Always introduce a new food over a period of 5 to 7 days, mixing increasing amounts of Instinct with the current food each day.

Black poop!

My cat is on this on an elimination diet, he loves it! Still in the first few days to see if it will be his permanent food but I hope so. However, there should be a disclaimer, or better yet you should take out the ingredient, that it can change their poop to black. Jet black. Concerning black.... If it fixes his problem I will stick with it, but it'd be impossible to tell if there was intestinal bleeding with poop this color.

Thank you for sharing. This recipe uses rabbit meal, which is a very dark meal and causes the kibble and stool to be very dark (blackish) in color. Feedback like yours is very important to us! We will pass along your feedback to our Product Team for consideration as we evaluate our recipes.

Why green pea??

This food would be a life saver (along with the wet food)… One of my cats has a poultry allergy, and our search for a limited ingredient novel protein diet lead us to Instinct Limited Ingredient Rabbit. A few weeks switching over & everything was going great - the food-sensitive cat’s chin was healing up, gaining weight too. Then the diarrhea started. Probiotics helped for a while, until they didn’t. Finally we took him off this food, found an even more limited rabbit wet food with no green pea, and his digestive issues have completely cleared up. It’s too bad that an expensive dry/wet food like this should have filler that can undermine all the benefits of switching to a limited ingredient diet.

Not happy wth product

Disappointed with results. While both cats will eat this food, one is vomiting from it. Also, like other reviews said, stool is very dark and smelly. Cannot recommend and will return. Too expensive to throw out.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Helped my cat with IBD

I had an older kitty that had some weird bowel issues, and random things would set her off. Once I started this food, those episodes started to happen less and less frequently. She also really liked the food, which is a bonus. It did make her poop quite a dark color, but considering the kibble is dark, I wasn't surprised.

So far so good!

I bought this cat food to give my cat a novel protein source. He’s suffering from skin allergies. He can be picky, but he prefers this food over his previous food. It’s too early to tell if it will help his allergies, but I’m hopeful. I’m also happy that it has fewer calories than his last food since he needs to lose a couple pounds.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Love love the food. We have one cat and since switching her we don't buy food but every 5 to 6 months. She gets excited when she knows it's feeding time and she eats with enthusiasm

Does freeze drying the raw food take away the concerns with handling/feeding raw food in terms of the potential bacteria and shedding of bacteria?

  1. Hello! No, freeze-drying does not destroy pathogens. For any frozen/freeze-dried raw, we do a process called HPP (high pressure processing) to destroy bacteria and make it safe. :)
