Questions
Ok, so I want to get a betta fish. Can anyone help me with the tank size? Is this sand good? Should I get something else in there with the betta, like what do bettas like?
- For a betta I would do a 5 or 10 gal and I would definitely use this sand. It’s the best sand out there, doesn’t require rinsing and never clouds the water. I have several tanks and this is the only sand I’ll use. Plus, it’s easier on bettas flowing fins. And I wouldn’t put anything with a betta. That way you won’t have to worry about potential fin nipping nor stressing out your betta.

I am trying to wash my sand and it keeps dying my bucket tub and water blue , I don’t feel like it’s safe for my fish with this much dye . Did I get a faulty bags what is wrong with this , it was been wash and mixed over 30 times and the water still turns
- I have used about 10 bags of this sand in my 200 gallon tank. I have not experienced any problems with dead fish. However, when I first got it I used a strainer with mesh laundry bags to rinse the sand over a bucket with a garden hose. I would then dump the bucket, and repeat. I did this several times allowing the sand to completely run clear in the bucket below the strainer before adding to the tank. It is easiest and best to add this to a tank before there is water in it. But I did add some after there was water in it. The best way to add sand to your tank with water in it is to take a plastic cup, fill the cup with sand, and slowly lower it into the tank. Then dump it out slowly. Even after rinsing it you will still get some cloudiness that will eventually settle or be filtered out. Some of the sand will float. Just use your hand or a net to slash it then it will sink. Once the sand is all in your tank then you can fill it SLOWLY trying not to disturb the sand. My water is 100% clear. No dead fish. No blue residue at all. Your best bet is to rinse it very well as I said above until it is clean. Once you think it is clean keep going for a bit longer to make sure. If all else fails you can do up to 75% water changes once a week. Just make sure to add water conditioner, and put the right tempature of water in it to match the tank water so you don't shock the fish. When adding fresh water make sure to do it very slowly. Anyway, good luck!

is this good for goldfish
- Yes, definitely. I have several tanks of ornamental goldfish and this is the only sand I’ll use. It doesn’t discolor or cloud water which is important because goldfish constantly sift through it. Goldfish should never have gravel as a substrate of any kind. It’s a choking hazard for them and will cut their mouths. Good luck!

Can I use this sand for my Triops?
- Hi, Imagitarium Aquarium Sand Substrate is suitable for Triops due to its non-toxic, fish-safe composition and fine grain size, which accommodates their natural digging and egg-burying behaviors in freshwater environments. It is recommended to use 2-3 inches of the substrate and rinse it thoroughly before use. Thanks.

Is there any crushed coral in this? It seems to have raised my pH A LOT.
- No crushed coral. Aquarium usually raises ph some temporarily. Iv used this sand in all colors in all my tanks and have not had any real issues but I don’t test for ph unless I think there’s a problem. I rarely lose fish. If you’re cycling a new tank, it should lower. Good luck.

I set up my aquarium with this black sand yesterday and today there is what looks like a metal/metallic sheen in one spot. Like anodized metal. Any ideas?
I wanted to add plants to my aquarium. Is this substrate suitable for growing plants? Will they survive?
- Hi Swiftie13, Good day! The sand will be suitable for growing plants but there are many other factors that go into growing plants successfully such as lighting, CO2 levels, water chemistry, and type of plants. Thanks,

Is this used for plants?
- Hi Kiko53, Good day! These are not a plant substrate, but plants can still survive if placed in aquariums with this type of sand. Thanks

Would the 5 pounds be good for a 2.5 gallon? If not, where can I get less?
- Hi Valued Guest, Good day! Yes, 5lbs will work.“ For optimum landscaping, use 2 lbs. of gravel per 1 gallon of water” Thanks,
