I bought this shell because it was sold to me by an employee. I did so much research for my betta and did everything right. I was told this was the safest hide for my betta fish by AN EMPLOYEE. The first night of him exploring his tank, I came to my room after dinner to find him stuck inside of the hole. I had to use wire cutters to cut him out that’s how bad he was stuck. He had tried to swim up and out of it, injured himself and ripped his fins off in the process. I medicated him for 4 days as the poor thing was suffering. He ended up passing away. do not buy, it’s ridiculous they are still on shelf’s after all these terrible reviews.

I bought this a couple months ago for my male beta fish tank. Yesterday I woke up and found him stuck in one of the holes on the top of the shell and unfortunately he had passed away. DO NOT BUY THIS FOR BETTAS or any fish big enough that they could get stuck in the holes, I made this mistake and it cost my fish his life. This product should absolutely not be advertised for bettas!!

This is perfect for my tarantula habitat. She loves to hide in it and it’s lightweight and smooth, so no risk of injury.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! We have a recently acquired beta which we set up a tank for and put this coconut shell in shortly after. The same day we put it in the tank, we found the beta stuck in one of the holes and trying to get loose, unsuccessfully. We broke the shell with pliers and the beta was freed, but now has EXTENSIVE wounds on his back and underbelly. We are not sure how much longer he might survive in this condition and we are trying to keep his tank clean so infection does not occur. AGAIN, DO NOT BUY THIS, IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD.

The pores of the coconut softened and fell off after about a week or two leaving a small hole that my betta got stuck trying to swim through. I found him limp on top of the coconut with his head and one pectoral fin through the hole but it was too tight for him to fit the rest of his body through. I was as gentle as I could be helping to back him out of it. His left pectoral fin, left gill, and left operculum aren't moving and the scales on his back are scraped. I turned off his filter to keep the water as calm as possible because all he wants to do is lay down on leaves and rest. He's resting on leaves near the water surface and fighting as best he can but it does not look good. I am so angry and heartbroken right now watching my poor friend suffer and fight for his life and there is nothing I can do but sit here and pray. I do not want this to happen to any other fish or for anybody to have to watch their friend have to go through this. One minute you will have a happy fish swimming around and the next they will be dying. Beware of how dangerous these hides are.
