External Care: Use a soft cloth and ammonia-free glass cleaner to keep outside of aquarium clean. Replace filter media every 2-4 weeks. Internal Care: Change 10-25% of aquarium water every 2-4 weeks, or as needed. Scrub aquarium wall with appropriate glass scrubber to reduce algae growth. Evaporation is common. We recently bought a 20 gallon fish tank for our house. The tank is currently only holding 16 gallons of water. We currently have 11 fish and 2 snails in the aquarium, totaling to 16 inches of fish (if you count the snails as fish). That’s following the gallon per inch of fish rule. However, my family wants to add more fish. Would we be safe to add more fish or should we stick with the 13 fish we have?
