The Hutchi Anthias are found in the Western Central Pacific inhabiting coral rich areas of outer reef slopes. The female Hutchi Anthias can be added in groups of at least 3, but they do much better in a harem size of 6 or 9. Usually, one in the group will morph into a male, but a male Hutchi can be added for every 4 or 5 females, which gives a much more completed look and saves the fish a dominance struggle. The males will protect (and harass to a certain degree) the females, making for great entertainment. The Hutchi Anthias has a maximum size of about 4" and will need a substantial amount of swimming room. Hutchi are quick to take a large variety of foods and have shown themselves to be quite hardy. These fish are well suited for automated feedings on pelletized foods, which allows you to give them a more natural food distribution over the course of a day. The females are not as brightly colored as the males, with an orange stripe that goes from their eyes to their pectoral fins.

ACCLIMATION: Avoid exposing new aquatic life to bright lights after opening the box. Turn off aquarium lights prior to floating aquatic life. Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. A bacteria booster addition can assist with the addition of new aquatic life. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe for the addition of new aquatic life. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried and frozen foods, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller aquariums.
