Improved Severe Skin Allergies

Lunas Mom

Our dog has had severe, chronic skin allergies since she turned 1 year old. We had tried everything to alleviate her allergies. Literally everything: apoquel, cytopoint, allergy testing and then immunotherapy weekly shots and eventually immunotherapy liquid drops, two different kinds of specialized hypoallergenic foods, special allergy shampoo, special sprays that supposedly helped with skin allergies, and many home remedies such as epsom salt baths and probiotics. We went to a dermatologist for about a year which cost at least $300 per visit. We have had to do so many rounds of steroids and antibiotics due to severe skin infections, and our dog eventually ended up living in a cone 24/7 to stop her from destroying her feet and getting terrible infections. We have spent thousands and thousands of dollars to try to remediate her terrible allergies and have had multiple vets tell us this is the worst case of skin allergies they have ever seen. This had lasted for about 6 years with a short stretch of relief in the winter months, but only if it snowed. Imagine having to keep your dog in a cone 24/7 for almost 10 months of the year, for 6 years. She couldn’t even eat or play when she wanted to because of the cone. It was a nightmare for us and even more so for our poor depressed pup. Our dog also never liked eating her dog food, so we randomly switched her over to the Hill’s Science Diet Sensitive Stomach and Skin small bites just because it sounded like it would be a good option for her. About 3 months after starting her on this food she no longer needed to wear her cone. At all. And we are about 11 months into feeding her this food and she has not needed her cone ever again. And we are currently in the worst part of her allergy season (summer). We still give her apoquel daily and she definitely still gets itchy, but for some reason she no longer is biting her feet until they bleed and she hasn’t gotten any infections. The only thing that we can attribute this improvement to is the fact that she is now on this food. We think it must be just helping her skin stay strong and heal faster or something, not truly sure the reasoning behind it. But it is seriously a miracle. Our dog is so happy and carefree now and she just gets to be a normal coneless dog. I’m so so happy we tried this food for her. It really has improved her quality of life immeasurably.

Inconsistent bags

Dogfood25

My two dogs have been on this for years and normally love it. The past two 15lb bags I have bought have been different. The first bag the kibble was larger than usual and one dog got diarrhea from eating it. The other dog picked at it but wouldn’t finish her bowl. So, I threw that bag away and bought a new one. The new bag I picked up has smaller than normal kibble size and the color is lighter. Neither dog will eat any of it. I’ve never had this inconsistency problem before.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great dog food. It's small enough for my dogs to easily eat and they seem to enjoy it. Their poop doesn't smell since they started on this food.

Miracle in a bag!

Princes Mommy

I found my Maltipoo at a local shelter. His skin was in such horrible condition and his fur was so thin and missing in some places. We had him on a top of the line food from Walmart, but he kept throwing up his meals, his stomach was always gurgling , and sometimes he would go all day long without eating from tummy issues. He was always scratching. We got the medical help we needed BUT this food was a game changer. All his stomach and skin issues stopped. He goes to the groomer monthly and we had bought our first bag right after an appointment. So by the next month the groomer wanted to know what we had done differently because his fur was so thick and had grown so much. She had to shave him down and the new growth is so SOFT. It’s still growing quick and thick. But most importantly, all his tummy issues have stopped and he loves the food. We have not had a single problem for the past two months. Note: he has diagnosed gastro problems and is not taking any medication for it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

How many calories are in your product? why doesn't it say? How can I plan a decent diet for my dogs without this basic info? Thanks

  1. Thank you for your question. We apologize for the inconvenience of the lack of calorie content. Hill's Science Diet Adult Sensitive Stomach & Skin Small Bites dog food has 381 kcal/cup. For additional product information, please visit our website. We hope this helps. Hill's Pet Nutrition

I need a can dog food with no yeast

  1. If your veterinarian told you that you need a dog food with no yeast, he should have told you which dog food to put your dog on. If your veterinarian did not suggest putting your dog food on a yeast free diet, it might not be a good idea to put your dog on such a diet.

Can this sensitive stomach food be for any dog? My mini schnauzer doesn't seem to have any issues, but seems to love it (I'm using it for my other dog, so she's tried it)

  1. I own 2 mini schnauzers and this food works for both. I had to switch from another brand after a pancreatitis attack and vet switched to this.

Why don't they make it in Salmon flavor? My dog is allergic to chicken. It seems all Science diet dog foods have chicken in them.

  1. Thank you for your question. At this time Hill's Science Diet Sensitive Stomach & Skin comes in a chicken flavor, however we will be sure to share your suggestion for another flavor along. Due to your special pet's medical condition we would suggest that you speak to your veterinarian for a food recommendation. We offer a full line of therapeutic products in our Prescription Diet line which are formulated for the management of certain health issues like allergies that can develop in pets. We hope this is helpful. Hill's Pet Nutrition
