Big Dog, Healthy Weight: Our Experience

Barbara N1

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I first opened the bag of Hill’s Science Diet Large Breed Light Adult (Chicken flavor, 30lb), I noticed the kibble size was perfect for my big dog, —large enough to encourage chewing but not too hard. The smell was mild and pleasant (no strong artificial odors), and the ingredients list reassured me with its focus on high-quality protein, natural fibers, and added nutrients like L-carnitine and omega-6s. My large-breed dog (a less active 3-year-old Siberian Husky) switched to this food gradually over a week. No digestive issues—he took to it immediately and seemed to enjoy the taste. Some "light" dog foods can be less appealing, but this one kept him interested. After a month of feeding: Weight Management: Helped my dog maintain his ideal weight without leaving him hungry (thanks to the high fiber and protein). Coat & Skin Health: His coat became noticeably softer and shinier Digestion & Energy: No stomach upset, and his energy levels stayed, great for a less active big dog.

Autumn's weight loss journey

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We have an overweight Labrador who started at 99.7 pounds. After trying multiple weight management dog foods over the past year with minimal success (only about a 5-pound loss total), we finally found something that works! Since switching to Hill’s Science Diet Adult Light Large Breed Chicken, she’s lost 12 pounds—and that’s just after finishing the first (free) bag. We were so impressed, we immediately purchased another. She loves the food, and we love the results. We’ll definitely be sticking with this to help keep her weight under control and support her long-term health. Highly recommend for anyone with a large breed pup struggling to shed extra pounds!

Happy Healthy Dog

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This dog food has done a fantastic job of helping my girl reach a healthy weight and maintain it. Plus, it does all this without sacrificing her energy or happiness. PROS: • Weight management: this food actually works. My girl was a bit chunky when she started this food. I believe the low calories and L-carnitine helped her slim down and stay there. • Happy tummy, great coat: my dog has a sensitive tummy, but she’s had zero issues with this dog food. Plus her coat actually seems shinier which I’m sure has a lot to do with the omega-6s and vitamin E. • She stays full: event though this is a “light” food, she seems genuinely satisfied after meals. I think the protein and fiber help her feel full so there’s less begging between meals. • Velcro top bag: Fantastic bag - the resealable closure does a great job at keeping this dog food fresh. CONS: • My only minor complaint would be the price point This dog food is pricier, but honestly it’s so worth it. Especially for my dog’s health

Great Product, Pups Loved It!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have 2 large breed dogs, one of which is quite the picky eater and has an intolerance to 9 of 10 different dog food brands we've tried. It gets really expensive sampling different brands only to find out my husky mix is intolerant to them, and often any remainder will go to waste since it never goes well if we try to feed our dogs different food (I swear they check each other's bowls just to make sure it's the exact same lol). So when I got to try this bag free courtesy of Home Tester's Club, I was thrilled, especially since they provided such a large size that we could truly see how it worked for them on a constant basis. And they LOVED it! They were even happy to eat dry food alone with this brand vs mixing half wet/half dry as we'd often do. And they rarely left these bowls unfinished as they sometimes did with their previous brand. My only critique is the price, because it definitely IS expensive, but seeing how much they liked and and knowing it's good for them, it's worth it!

Picky dog

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Hazel is very picky when it comes to dry food. We’ve tried many different ones and she will eat it the first day and from there on it’s a struggle to make her eat dry food. We will use toppers, dog gravy ext to make it more appealing. With this new dog food, she has been eating her whole bowl of dry food with no add ins. She really liked and a month later she is still eating it. Happy we got to test it, will continue to repurchase.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve never seen my dog devour food quicker he seems to really like it, usually he lets food sit in the bowl for most of the day but he immediately defends on the bowl when we give him a scoop

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Five stars don’t do justice to Hill's Science Diet chicken flavor! My golden retriever, Belle, is totally obsessed—her tail’s wagging like crazy the second I grab the bag! The chicken flavor has her licking her bowl spotless, and her coat’s never looked shinier, like she’s strutting for a doggy crown. Belle’s always had little stomach issues, but out of all the dog foods I’ve tried—and trust me, I’ve tried a ton—this is the one that works! I’m astonished at how well it settles her tummy. Her energy’s off the charts, too, zooming after squirrels like a pro. I also toss in some Hill's treats—those goodies have her sitting pretty in a flash. This combo keeps Belle healthy, happy, and rocking that golden retriever glow. This is a I must-try if your dog has had stomach issues in the past!

what are the calories per cup compared to the perfect weight line?

  1. Thank you for your question. Hill's Science Diet Adult Light Large Breed with Chicken Meal & Barley Dry Dog Food contains 271 kcals per cup. Hill's Science Diet Perfect Weight Large Breed Dry Dog Food contains 289 kcals per cup. Hill's Pet Nutrition

Is this primarily for dogs that need to lose weight? Which Adult Large Breed food would you recommend for a 1 year old healthy and active Labrador?

  1. It’s great for labs to maintain a healthy weight. My lab never felt full on other dog food and my vet recommended this one because the fillers help labs feel full. I will never switch to another type of food for my dog.

What is the difference between Light and Healthy Weight dog food?  I'm interested in both dry and canned food and not sure which to buy for my dog who needs to lose 10-15 lbs

  1. My black lab needed to lose about 15lbs, I started using this hills light adult large breed, took alitte bit of time & exercise, I also add almost half the bowl filled with water, which also help them feel full, I would also calorie count her treats or only give her half, we did reach our ideal weight, & will also continue to use hills light. To maintain. Hills science adult light large breed, dry food, I believe is the actual full name,
