New ingredients changes

Beally23

Why change the formula and lost the trust in pet parents. It is irresponsible to change ingredients and not let veterinarians and pet parents of the new changes. Your food its expensive already and you have the audacity to make everything worse . Shame on you for causing this stress on all of your loyal customers.

Thank you for reaching out to us. To remain a leader in nutritional health care for companion animals, we continuously research our products and periodically update our formulas to include the latest health benefits and scientific advancements. Over time, this product has undergone several updates. As a manufacturer, we notify retailers and veterinary clinics whenever we make changes to our pet food formulas. Won’t eat new formula

BadNewFormula

I would give zero stars if I could The formula change has been a disaster. I received my monthly shipment and did not notice the different label. Upon opening the can I thought it smelled “off” but went about feeding my cat as usual. She started walking towards the plate and got about a foot away and then turned tail. No matter how long it sat there she would not get close let alone eat it. I had a whole case and a few can of the original formula so I began the approach of easing her in to the new formula. Putting one teaspoon new in to four tablespoons of original. Still no dice. I’m very upset as she has IBS and hydrolyzed protein is required for her health. But no she won’t eat. Having to choose between her not eating at all, or eating something else that makes her feel bad and sometimes throw up is a despicable position to be put in. I am begging you to please please bring back the original formula. The condescending response by “consumer affairs” to so many other negative online reviews makes me think Hills does not listen to their customers or care about the animals. Whatever benefit may have been intended by this new formula is moot if the pets that are prescribed the food will not eat it. Have mercy and do the right thing.

Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear of your experience. Please know, we review all consumer comments and concerns, and we ensure that your feedback is shared with the appropriate departments. To maintain our leadership in nutritional health care for companion animals, we periodically make changes to product formulas to incorporate additional health or product design benefits. Despite the favorable benefits gained through the reformulation, our pets are creatures of habit and may need a little help to get accustomed to the change in the food. When the formula is changed, we recommend a transition from the old to the new formula over a seven day period (or longer for picky eaters).

New Formula is AWFUL

New formula. TERRIBLE. My poor cat went from eating a whole can of the original formula every day to not even getting close to the plate with this new formula. She’s starving and it’s heartbreaking

This can also help ward off against any sort of tummy trouble.

Hills has lost my trust for this debacle

Mariah

Shame on Hills for making a change to a formula and not disclosing this to pet parents, veterinarians and retailers. And changing a formula specifically designed for cats/dogs with special needs? You have totally lost my trust and my respect. It took us almost 2 years to get our cat diagnosed and stabilized on the "original" food and it's not like there are other options. Our cat won't even go near the food due to the smell - either the pecan shells or coconut oil is repulsive to him. Shame, shame, shame on you. Now we have to start over. Why couldn't you have kept the original and added this to your line. I'm beyond frustrated and upset on behalf of our cat.

New formula is no good

My cat wouldn't touch his food with even just the smallest bit of the new formula mixed in. The original z/d was the only wet food he would ever touch. This was a horrible decision and Hills needs to switch back.

Horrible new formula putting cats at risk!

Susanna

I would like to know why you aren't actually addressing the legitimate concerns reviewers have posted about the new formula? Fish oil, pecan shells and citrus need some serious explaining! No one chooses to feed Hills z/d because they want to. They do it because they HAVE to because their cats are medically fragile. Show us the data that shows pecan shells are safe in cats. There is any because it can be an allergen. A simple Google search says that citrus is toxic to cats. Cats with fish allergies can't have fish oil. This food is supposed to be for cats with intolerances. It is THE ONLY hydrolyzed wet cat food on the US market besides one other company which seems to be sold out everywhere and contains fish. Are you legitimately taking in the feedback? What will actually happen with it? It's okay to say "our bad, we've heard you and know that it's our responsibility to provide a safe food for all cats with severe allergies and intolerances which is why will now be providing the original formula as another option." If you can't do that, don't market it the way that you do and don't pretend that you care about anything other than money. I've defended Hills for a long time because z/d has been the only food that my soul cat can eat and has literally been saving his life for 5 years. I'm not sure I can do that anymore.

Change to Chicken flavor from “original” with no warning

Ellen

We were so happy with the “original” flavor of this food. I would have given it 5 stars. Suddenly Original is unavailable and seems to be replaced with Chicken with no warning. Multiple pet stores including Chewy, Petsmart and Petco don’t even seem to have any information and I cannot find info on the Hill’s site. My cat hates the chicken and is refusing to eat it despite a slow phase transition. Disappointed at the change but even more at the lack of info/communication.

Cat reacted to new formula

Finnchris

My cat’s skin was healed on the old formula. He had new skin lesions after eating the new formula for a week. I’m so upset. We had to take him to the vet for a steroid shot. Now what am I supposed to feed him? Apparently they are changing the dry as well. Why would you change something cat owners rely on?

My cat is getting older now at 8 and she keeps throwing up her soft food. I give her hard food also. Hopefully Hills Science Diet will help her tummy feel so much better. My question is if you will bring back the old formula please?!!! Thank you

What is the calorie count for each can? Thanks.

    1. This is what is on the label: 1114 kcal ME/kg;174 kcal ME/can

Has Hills Prescription z/d cat canned food been discontinued? I can't seem to find it anywhere!

    1. I am not having any trouble finding it, try their website - https://www.hillspet.com/cat-food/pd-zd-feline-canned

Does this z/d prescription diet cat food come in any other flavors?

Why does cat food need Vet authorization?

      1. A couple different reasons: some prescription foods are not "nutritionally complete" and can results in deficiencies if used exclusively for a long periods of time. Also, they are not a stand alone solution to health problems, and the animals should be under the care of a veterinarian.
