How can this be healthy for a cat when the second and third ingredients are high carb items (grains) and the fourth ingredient is wood pulp?
- Cellulose is a natural plant fiber (not necessarily ‘wood pulp’), and is used to help move food thru the cat’s digestive system - similar to why people that eat a high fiber diet tend to lose weight. The addition of cellulose also appears to help many cats with hairballs.

I recently asked how I can help Minnie loose weight because she is 13 pounds, and my response was to put her on a Science Diet metabolic weight management diet. My responder said it had good outcomes with his previous patients, but was he talking about the Hill’s Prescription Diet Metabolic Weight Management Dog Food? And if it is, is there a specific flavor that is best to use for her weight loss plan? Also, I live in Arizona — with terrible heat. I was told to walk her 3-4 times a day. Can I?
I have a neutered female overweight scottish fold cat and need to overcome the weight problem. I used to feed her Hills Metabolic but it is not available anymore in Turkey so I need alternative ideas.
I am fostering an over weight cat for an animal shelter. He has been put on a special diet by a vet. He started the diet 2 weeks ago, weighing 20.4 lbs. I took him for his first weigh-in yesterday and he has actually GAINED 2 pounds. How can that be? After cat fight & treated at vet with Covina, rabies, anti inflam shot, my indoor/outdoor cat recovered indoors for 3 weeks. He started going outside again in a limited way. He gained weight. My male cat recently had cytene (not sure of spelling) crystals. The vet said he needs to eat Hill's Science Diet canned food. My cat is 15 pounds so that means I would have to feed him two cans a day at a cost of over $100 a month. Is there any other food that I could give him. Right now I am feeding mostly pate cans of Fancy Feast - 4 cats - 6 bowls and I feed separately to one who is old and I do this or she would never get any. My vet wanted my one cat Kahlua on a Hill's prescription G/D diet hard foot so I leave that out for free feed. This has brought her lab values back to normal. They are becoming fat. I have two cats one is 5 and the other is 3. Our 5 year old is a little chunky he's around 13lbs and our 3 year old is starting to get chunky hes currently 11 lbs. Do we need to feed them two different foods or is there a food that would work for both to get them to a healthy weight? We are looking into getting Hill's science diet and they are currently eating Blue Buffalo (recommend amounts). I don't have a photo of the 3 year old as he is always on the go playing and being wild.
