Best prescription wet cat food for renal disease.

Elodies mom

This is the only kidney disease prescription wet cat food my cat will eat. She loves another brands dry food but I understand that dry food is not as good for her. I wish this flavor came in the smaller size can. She eats such small portions at a time and won’t touch it if it has been out for more than 30 minutes. My cat only eats it when it's fresh out of the can, because this food doesn't refrigerate well; as another reviewer noted—it changes the smell once it's been in the fridge for a day or two. I hate to waste so much of it, especially given the hefty price.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Hill's Prescription Diet K/D tuna pate

KathyEB

Our vet recommended Hill's Prescription Diet K/D Kidney Care (pate of tuna). Our cat was having kidney problems and had stopped eating. She had been so used to dry kibble that it took her a week to accept this wet food. Once she did, she loved it. She started eating voraciously and is now so healthy and spry for an eleven year old cat. We heartily recommend this cat food, if prescribed by your vet.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Cats were not too fond of this. They like a seafood based wet food but didn't like this flavor I guess. Maybe make it in an ocean white fish flavor which they like in other wet can foods.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Senior cat with kidney failure

My 16/17 year old cat is in the early stages of kidney failure. His veterinarian, Dr. Timothy Llewellyn prescribed this food for him and he's been thriving. Hills is a company I've trusted for years, and continue to put great faith in. Thank you for creating such a perfect formula for my sweet Milton.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Return Policy on Petco Prescription Food

HCRW

The vet said our cat has an enlarged kidney so suggested we start her on a kidney diet with Hills, unfortunately our cat refuses to eat the prescription diet. We have tried to incorporate it with the other food she was eating but it is not working. So now I have spent $44+ on a food my cat won't eat. READ Petco's return policy before you purchase any RX foods

No, I do not recommend this product.

Our vet determined our cat had Stage 2 kidney disease and recommended this food. So far the cat really likes it and eats it up every time we feed him.

Questions

1 - 5 of 5 Questions

Why has the prices become so expensive. The higher it gets everytime you visit the stores. The SIZE IF PACKAGING IS GETTING SMALLER AND VERY.

  1. I think you should contact the manufacturer about this.

In the Analysis, I see that there is minimum 5% crude protein, but there is no upper max level listed. Often there is a min. and max value listed. What the maximum % of protein?

    Do you need the prescription?

    1. Yes, just give them your vets name and phone number.

Is the chicken and tuna 5.5 oz cans a pate/loaf or chunky type of food?

    1. It says Pate on the can in the picture. The "stew" version, smaller cans, is chunky.

What are the magnesium and phosphorus percentages?

    1. Thank you for your question. The magnesium level in this food is .057% on a dry matter basis. The phosphorus level is .45% on a dry matter basis. Hill’s Pet Nutrition
