Kidney Care Diet

I thought my kitties loved the Hill's chicken and vegetable stew, but they currently prefer this. The larger cans are more convenient with 2 cats eating the diet.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Helpful?

Good for my cat.

I have 2 cats. One has to be on k/d food. He doesn't eat well anymore, so I have to syringe feed him. At least he doesn't spit it out, but he's not enthusiastic. The other cat, who doesn't need it, LOVES it. Go figure.

Can size is too much for the Pate …please make it in the small cans too.

Sue

My biggest complaint is the size of the pate cans. WHY can’t the pate be also made in the smaller can like the stew is? My cat will ONLY eat this when it comes straight from an opened can and he eats small portions multiple times a day. The first two spoonfuls he will gobble right down. Beyond that i end up throwing out 1/2 a can because it’s “not fresh” in my pet’s viewpoint. I cover the food with press and seal immediately after the first spoonful then put a plastic lid on the can to keep the air out. I’ve tried transferring it to another container for refrigeration…He just needs to have the pate in the smaller can so I can open it fresh and get two servings from the can and move on to the next. I’m tired of throwing out so much food that he won’t eat in the large can. PLEASE start putting the pate in the smaller can.

No Phosphorous content information

Where is the phosphorous content information on the chicken pate k/d ? It is not on this website and further, I called corporate and they were not able to tell me. Seeing that phosphorous is the enemy of CKD cats this is not a very thoughtful approach by Hills. This information needs to be disclosed.

Thank you for reaching out to us. The phosphorus content on a dry matter basis is 0.5%. You may find the nutrient levels under the “Average Nutrient & Caloric Content” tab on the Hill’s website at the following link: https://www.hillspet.com/cat-food/pd-kd-feline-with-chicken-canned

My two cats loved this…now one won’t eat it. Oy!

This used to be Maybe and Adelaide’s favorite KD food…until Maybe passed at 18 years old. Now Adelaide walks away from it. She is in mourning even after five months…seriously….and has lost some weight so I have switched her to KD dry food and she loves that. I will try this version again in future because it is important to give kidney disease kitties some wet food if possible. My only complaint is I wish this came in smaller cans like the Chicken and Veg Stew. My cats have always preferred straight out of a new can to refrigerated food and most kidney disease cats don’t have the biggest appetites, especially down the road a few years. It is high quality food and like I said..it had been a family favorite here for years.

Change in texture

I bought a new case last week and the texture has changed: it's not as moist and now my cats won't eat it. They liked the last few cases I've bought just fine.

Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed to hear of your experience. First, we want to assure you this consistency variation has no effect on the nutritional value of the food. Dry and crumbly canned product can be the result of exposure to very cold temperatures during transportation and distribution. Please be assured that every truck load of canned product leaving our canning facility during cold weather months, uses thermal blankets. In addition, canned product receives priority upon arrival to distribution centers. If your cat is responding differently to the food, you may try heating the food in the microwave for a few seconds to release aroma. In addition, all of our products are 100% satisfaction guaranteed. If you would like to take advantage of this guarantee, please return the unused portion of the product to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange.

Not wasting my money on this again

I was buying this and it had a good consistency. Then suddenly the food was gummy and wouldn't come out of the can easily. What did you do, change the ingredients? More water?

Thank you for your review. we are disappointed to hear of your experience. Please know we have a team of veterinarians and pet nutritionists who work very hard at making sure our pet foods are nutritionally balanced, fresh and safe to feed to pets everywhere. While it is difficult to tell the exact cause for this change in texture, we can assure you that this variation has no impact on the nutritional value of the food. Some possible causes of the variation are the freshness of the product or temperatures the food has been exposed to during distribution. All of our products are 100% satisfaction guaranteed. If you would like to take advantage of this guarantee, please return the unused portion of the product to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange. -HIll's Pet Nutrition

Needs to be smaller size

robert

I don't know for sure whether this is helping their kidneys, but the vets we have seen tell us we need to give them the k/d food, especially now with the heart meds. They wouldn't eat it a couple of years ago, but now they (mostly) love it. However, IT NEEDS TO COME IN SMALLER CANS. 5.5oz is just too much. Even covering it and storing it in the fridge it goes bad too quickly.

Are there treats available for us to get for our feline fur babies with kidney disease?

How many cans in a case?  How much per can without multiple shipments?  Don’t know yet how much my cat will eat of this new food.  Thank you.

    1. There are 24 cans in a case. There are 2 different sizes of cans so you can choose which size you want. Since this is a prescription food, I first bought a few cans at my vets office to see which flavor he likes best.

I don’t see can size/or how many cans?

    1. 5.5 ounces

I have the prescription for feline k/d from my veterinarian, should I scan it and send it to you or should I go to the nearest Petco store for filling? My cat was started on Hills prescription diet k/d pate with chicken and the dry formula too.

    1. Hi Judytere, It should be scanned and sent to Petco. We suggest that you can call our Customer Relations Department at 888-824-7257 so that you can be provided the process on this. Thanks,
