When cats have damage to kidney tissues, the kidneys cannot perform as well as before, like filtering and reabsorbing nutrients. The condition is not reversible, but progression may be slowed. Therapeutic foods for kidney conditions are designed to help reduce workload on the kidneys, enabling them to function more effectively. Cats with decreased kidney function may experience loss of appetite and their food intake might decline. Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Hill's Prescription Diet k/d clinical nutrition with ActivBiome+ Kidney Defense, a proprietary blend of prebiotics shown to activate the gut microbiome to help protect kidney function. Prescription Diet k/d is available in multiple wet forms & flavors to entice even the pickiest of eaters. This variety pack has two irresistible and delicious stew flavors - Chicken & Vegetable Stew and Vegetable & Tuna Stew. In fact, Prescription Diet k/d has clinically proven nutrition to improve & lengthen quality of life.

my 12 year old cat was recently diagnosed with early stages of kidney disease. i had her eating the dry food from Hills K/D and she was ok with that. Then i moved her to the wet food because she stopped eating the dry. now she’ll eat the wet food for a day or so and then refuses. the only food she never misses a meal is fancy feast pate and blue buffalo healthy gourmet pate. i know commercial food isn’t great, but are either of these foods near the percentile a kidney cat needs?
One of our male cats recdently had a blockage and we had to take him to emergency. We got there in the nick of time, he was going into kidney failure! Naturally he now has to be on special prescription food. The Hill's c/d he doesn't like at all. The Royal Canin he tolerates but will hardly eat it. I always try to mix something else in but it's just a chore to get him to eat now and the poor guy is hungry. He does love Royal Canin's dry SO food and treats. What else can I feed him?
Best low-carb wet food for cats?
My male cat is almost 14. I know he is starting kidney problems due to the extra water he drinks at this point. and a bit thinner. lots of energy still. I read they need at least 50% protein, I give him wet and dry which i know is not good, but lots of wet and freeze dried chicken too, vit with dig enzymes. Can you suggest the best Wet high protein food and anything else from Petco?
My 15 year old cat has stage 2 kidney disease. She shows no changes in her personality or daily habits. She will not eat any of the renal wet prescription diet food that our vet has suggested. What would be the best brand of store shelf wet food for her? I have been reading labels for high protein and moisture, good Omega 3, low phosphorus and alot of brands seem to be about the same. She is a fussy eater.
My dog has kidney disease. She's on hills kd diet but refuse to eat it without meat. What is the best meat for her to have?
My cat had annual blood work done and was diagnosed with SLIGHT increase in kidney values. The vet recommended that I put her on some sort of kidney diet food(Royal Canine or Hills Science Diet) She normally eats Rachael Ray Nutrish dry, and Special Kitty canned. I was looking at the ingredients in the food brands the vet recommended and they have a lot of grains and fillers. I was thinking to keep the foods I normally use for her and buy some sort of kidney support supplement instead. Thoughts?
My cat has early stages of kidney disease. We have put her on a hills science diet prescription food and she's doing well on it. But I wonder about treats. I don't want to mess with what she eats to much cause her levels are stabled. But I'd like to give her something once in awhile. I tried baking her food into treats and she didn't like it. Are there any treats you recommend for cats with kidney issues? What about human food as treats?
Cat food for heart health containing taurine
tony eats Rx hills K/D & I do labs every 2-3mths to check renal values. Today his SDMA is up from 17 to 21, creatinine down to 1.9 from 2.0 & BUN down from 41 to 37. He’s gained a little weight, he eats well. My vet feels this is stable even tho SDMA is up& I’d like to know ur opinion. Is there anything I can do to help keep this value low or is it possible I contribute to the increase b/c I often sprinkle just a bit of a freeze dried cat treat on top his kidney food To help him finish his meals
My cat was diagnosed with kidney failure and has gastrointestinal problems. We are trying to change the diet to one that would be fitting, such as Renal both wet and dry from Royal Canine and Gastrointestinal from Royal Canine, these are the only foods available in my area for these two diseases. But my cat doesn't want to eat at all. Would it be possible to add to his diet a bit of chicken meat at least once a day or mixed with the wet food?
