When cats have damage to kidney tissues, the kidneys cannot perform as well as before, like filtering and reabsorbing nutrients. The condition is not reversible, but progression may be slowed, and taking action early can be beneficial. Therapeutic foods for kidney conditions are designed to help reduce workload on the kidneys, enabling them to function more effectively. Cats with decreased kidney function may experience loss of appetite and their food intake might decline. Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Early Support clinical nutrition for early protection of a cat's vital kidney function and to encourage eating for strength and energy. It's formulated with ActivBiome+ Kidney Defense, a proprietary blend of prebiotics shown to activate the gut microbiome to help protect kidney function. This dry food is made with chicken and has an irresistible taste that cats love.

Questions
Is there a grain-free option? One of my cats needs the kidney support, but another has a gluten allergy.
- They think cats eat corn.....don['t have a clue why......I tried to get this same question answered by my Vet and she wouldn't answer it either. To me, I don't understand why anyone would feed corn to a cat. Do they eat it in the wild? No way. So how it it helpful for a cat with kidney issues? My question exactly.

What is in the ingredients that require a prescription????
- Hmmm...not surprising they won't answer your question directly. I can't even get my Vet to answer why my cat needs to eat corn instead of meat for kidney issues...I guess it's a "need to know" basis or "you aren't a medical doctor so, you don't need to know". Frustrates me too. Good luck.
