When cats have damage to kidney tissues, the kidneys cannot perform as well as before, like filtering and reabsorbing nutrients. The condition is not reversible, but progression may be slowed. Therapeutic foods for kidney conditions are designed to help reduce workload on the kidneys, enabling them to function more effectively. Cats with decreased kidney function may experience loss of appetite and their food intake might decline. Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Hill's Prescription Diet k/d clinical nutrition with ActivBiome+ Kidney Defense, a proprietary blend of prebiotics shown to activate the gut microbiome to help protect kidney function. Prescription Diet k/d is also formulated with Enhanced Appetite Trigger (E.A.T) to stimulate appetite and increase food intake. This dry food is made with chicken and has an irresistible taste that your cat will love.

My cat has been on Hills KD for over a year now because of her failing kidneys which is under control now. She also has high BP and is on daily medicine. She is 14. I am a pensioner and the hills is so expensive for me. Is there a cheaper way of feeding without compromising her health. Thank you
My 16 yr old Persian cat was recently diagnosed w/kidney disease. Doc prescribed Hill's Kidney Care. I've been trying to give the canned version for the first time ever because of dehydration. She eats some, but not enough, & has dropped from her usual 7 1/2 lbs to about 5 1/2 lbs. She licks & licks, but it takes forever for her to get it in. She also seems unable to pick up the dry version because of it's shape & size and her flat face. What can I do to get her to eat enough?
I feed my cat Hill's Prescription Diet k/d Early Support Chicken Canned Cat Food, and order it from chewy.com, but the are out of stock and vet doesn't carry it. She has only 10 cans left. Is there any other place to get this food quickly?
My 15 yr old Maine Coon cat is beginning to have a little kidney “aging” according to my vet. “His kidney numbers were a little off - not bad”. He suggested a prescription food - KD - my cat will NOT eat it - 4 days now. He had been on Putin’s Pro Plan - prime plus - which he loved! Can you recommend a dry food with less protein and potassium. - which my vet says hinders the kidneys. Thank you in advance.
What is the best dry and wet food for cats with & kidney health issues?
I recently purchased online Hill's Prescription Diet Feline Kd Kidney Care dry food by mistake, meant to buy the Canine one (my dog has been on this for about a year now with Vet advice). However I see the dry biscuits are much smaller than the dog variety and my dog is tiny so this size would be better for her to eat. Will it hurt her by giving it to her instead?
Sr. cat with stage 2 renal failure. She struggles with constipation, inadequate water drinking, arthritis, toothless, cataracts, and deafnesss. She is on Royal Canin kidney recipe as the most tolerable of choices to-date (really didn't care for Hill Science version). Have been mixing with fancy feast kitty or adult pate, laxative and Cosequin. Recently found Delectables bisques to add instead of fancy feast. She seems to like well & I can add water, upping her intake. Ash content concern.
my 12 year old cat was recently diagnosed with early stages of kidney disease. i had her eating the dry food from Hills K/D and she was ok with that. Then i moved her to the wet food because she stopped eating the dry. now she’ll eat the wet food for a day or so and then refuses. the only food she never misses a meal is fancy feast pate and blue buffalo healthy gourmet pate. i know commercial food isn’t great, but are either of these foods near the percentile a kidney cat needs?
One of our male cats recdently had a blockage and we had to take him to emergency. We got there in the nick of time, he was going into kidney failure! Naturally he now has to be on special prescription food. The Hill's c/d he doesn't like at all. The Royal Canin he tolerates but will hardly eat it. I always try to mix something else in but it's just a chore to get him to eat now and the poor guy is hungry. He does love Royal Canin's dry SO food and treats. What else can I feed him?
My 11 year old female cat has very early kidney disease. Vet recommended Science Hills G/D prescribed food. My cat is currently on Acana and Origen which seems to be the healthiest available. Vet is trying to limit sodium and phosphorus intake but Science Hills G/D has so much by products and it's highly processed but slightly lower on sodium and phosphorus than Acana. Do you recommend the switch to slow down kidney disease? Thank you
Hi tony is on Rx hills KD kidney care chicken canned diet. I often have to give him a bit of a topper to add some flavor I guess and get him going... do you know if hills science diet healthy cuisine adult 11+ may be a food lower in phosphorus and protein as to not be as harmful to the kidneys? I’m Not able to find these nutritional values on the can. thanks!
My dog has kidney disease. She's on hills kd diet but refuse to eat it without meat. What is the best meat for her to have?
