Description

Please note that the product information displayed is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and other third parties and is not independently verified by Petco.

When cats have damage to kidney tissues, the kidneys cannot perform as well as before, like filtering and reabsorbing nutrients. The condition is not reversible, but progression may be slowed. Therapeutic foods for kidney conditions are designed to help reduce workload on the kidneys, enabling them to function more effectively. Cats with decreased kidney function may experience loss of appetite and their food intake might decline. Hill's nutritionists and veterinarians developed Hill's Prescription Diet k/d clinical nutrition with ActivBiome+ Kidney Defense, a proprietary blend of prebiotics shown to activate the gut microbiome to help protect kidney function. Prescription Diet k/d is also formulated with Enhanced Appetite Trigger (E.A.T) to stimulate appetite and increase food intake. This dry food is made with chicken and has an irresistible taste that your cat will love.

High phosphorus levels???

Eve

The phosphorus analysis on the KD chicken dry cat food reads .75… The max level a KD cat is .50… Has the formula been changed? If so you are not providing the best phosphorus level for chronic kidney disease cat. High phosphorus level equates to higher creatinine levels which shortens a cat’s life. Please explain why the change and contact buyers so they can get the best cat food for their pets.

Thank you for reaching out. We have not recently changed the formulation of this product. Hill's Prescription Diet k/d with Chicken Cat Food has a phosphorus level of .54% on a dry matter basis. Please know, the guaranteed analysis is provided on the bag or can to give you a general idea of the nutrient content. However, if you would like to know the actual nutrient content of the product, you will need to look at the dry matter basis nutrient percentages on our website which is the nutrient content of the food with all the water removed and is the actual level of the nutrients in the product.

The boy likes it!

Picky child is gulping it down and while it’s better for them to be eating soft food for the water content he is entirely too skinny and he needs this diet so that’s all that matters at this point.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I bought this about six weeks ago because my 17 1/2 year-old cat was diagnosed with stage three renal failure. She loved it right away. She is also eating canned kidney diet food. She had a checkup this week and her blood was retested and after six weeks of being on the kidney diet food she has gone from stage three down to stage one kidney failure. So it’s working and we are happy.

I had two kitties, both diagnosed with kidney disease. My older boy cat, Maybe, never cared for this dry food so we went with Royal Canin’s version for years. He has since recently passed away and now Adelaide, who also is a hyper thyroid kitty on medication, has decided she no longer likes any of the foods made for kidney support that we still have bags and cans of. Most exasperating, at the very least. I purchased a small bag of Hill’s KD dry kibble and guess what? She LOVES it!! Praise be! Unfortunately she won’t eat the chicken and veg Stew KD or the chicken Paté KD for now. I will try those two again at a later date. They were Maybe’s favorites until he stopped eating near his end. I wish the chicken Paté came in the smaller cans like the Stew….getting a cat with decreasing appetite to eat is hard enough but having to refrigerate leftovers for days makes the food less and less desirable in my opinion. I feel confident that Adelaide is at least getting good balanced nutrition from the KD dry. I hope her desire to eat it continues.

My cat loves the new formula

My cat has been eating the Science Diet k/d diet since the l/d was discontinued, abiut 2016. He would not eat the dry version of the k/d and was eating only canned food for years. When I saw the dry formula had been updated I decided to give it a try as he was eating me out of house and home on the canned food. To my great pleasure, he loves it! It was a great product update. Everyone who owns cats knows how particular they can be about their food. I couldn't be more pleased.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Did the K/D diet dry food kibble size change? My new bag of K/D has significantly smaller kibbles than what is printed on the outside of the bag, as well as what we have received in all previous bags of food.

do you make a cat food with gravy

    1. They do have a wet food version of K/D. The stew ones are in a sauce.

What does the K/D stand for in the name of the food? I see others have KM is there a difference in the formula?

    1. KM may be k/d + mobility?

Can you feed this to cats without kidney problems

    1. Thank you for your question. This food is formulated for a specific medical concern. We would suggest speaking to your veterinarian for a diet recommendation. Hill’s Pet Nutrition
