Happy kitty on Hills id

My cat Kolohe recently had problems with her digestive system and the vet’s office gave her Hills id. She loves it!

Yes, I recommend this product.

DO NOT BUY THE NEW FORMULA

New formula is terrible!!! Thanks for adding ground up pecan shells. My human family are all nut allergic severely and can't even touch the stuff on the spoon. I don't know why you change formulas but my thought is to minimize issues in packaging and production. Unfortunately, your business decision has left the majority of us with cats that relied on the old formula in a mess. Not even my vet recommends this anymore. It's a disaster!!!

Thank you for your review. To maintain our leadership in nutritional health care for companion animals, we periodically make changes to product formulas to incorporate additional health or product design benefits. Despite the favorable benefits gained through the reformulation, our pets are creatures of habit and may need a little help to get accustomed to the change in the food. Ground Pecan Shells are used as a source of fiber. In a pecan cracking plant, the pecan shell receives water washings, a 180 degree hot water wash and subsequent drying after separation from pecan meats. There is no warning on the bag concerning nut meat contamination as this level is expected to be in the low parts per million level.

Why the Formula Channge?

Why did you change the formula? My cat is not interested in the wet slop that now fills these cans, and that is beyond frustrating as he has had a subtotal colectomy and is once again constipated from the new food prescribed for him.

Bad Formula Change

We’ve been using this food for years, but the second we got the cans with the new formula my cat refuses to eat. I am frustrated and don’t understand why a formula change was necessary. Please change it back!

No, I do not recommend this product.

Horrible and shouldn’t be consumed.

These ingredients are horrible. The can reads chicken and the first ingredient is actually water, followed by pork liver, then you have potato starch, rice, chicken fat, and chicken flavor. This isn’t even food. I wouldn’t feed this to a rat.

Consumer Affairs
Thank you for your feedback. There's a lot of conflicting information out there regarding pet food. Our #1 value is the health of your pet, which is why we base all of our recipes and formulas on veterinary and scientific research on pet nutrition. High-quality pet food starts with understanding a pet’s nutritional needs first, such as life stage, lifestyle and health conditions. These factors help us determine the right balance of ingredients for protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins and minerals that will meet a pet's nutritional needs.

Kiki and I are happy to have this food!

Vet prescribed after 17 y.o. Kitty lost weight due to high liver enzymes, dehydration and nausea. After treatments at vet (fluid therapy, anti nausea and b12 shot I brought her home and she gobbled up first whole first can after not eating for two days. I was thrilled. She has been eating it for two more days now. I'm praying she gets better, and have to say that I am grateful that she is enjoying this new food. The vet gave me a plastic cover, so it stays fresh. I wish I had been feeding her such a high quality food throughout her whole life. Well she made it to 17, but still I feel it's a great product, and that she deserves it!

New texture and hard chunks

shablagoo

I would like to echo what other reviewers have pointed out in the last several months. The consistency of the food is definitely different than it used to be, but there is another concerning issue. There are dry, hard chunks in the food. This has been the case for several cases over several months. I have to pick these parts out of the food and that is a waste. The company has responded by saying they test the ingredients, but maybe the ingredients aren't the issue and maybe there is some new inconsistency in a production step. I would hate to have to go through process of introducing my cats to a new food after having used this product for so many years, but I think we have to seriously consider it now. Please look into your manufacturing process.

Thank you for your feedback. We're disappointed to hear of your experience. First, we want to assure you this consistency variation has no effect on the nutritional value of the food. Dry and crumbly canned product can be the result of exposure to very cold temperatures during transportation and distribution. Please be assured that every truck load of canned product leaving our canning facility during cold weather months, uses thermal blankets. In addition, canned product receives priority upon arrival to distribution centers. All of our products are 100% satisfaction guaranteed. If you would like to take advantage of this guarantee, please return the unused portion of the product to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange.

One of my babies had surgery earlier this month and was put on this diet to help him recover. The problem is that it makes him vomit. Actually both my cats vimit after eating this. Really unsure how this is supposed to help and absolutely makes me question ever buying Hills food again!

Are there any fish flavors of I/D wet cat food?

  1. No just chicken

My cat is now on this food but can only have small amount at a time. Do you have to put the test in refrigerator?  Seems to dry out in refrigerator & is cold.

  1. There is a 2.9 oz size of this exact good which is a tad over 1/2 of of this 5.5 oz. The overall cost per ounce raises somewhat substantially (27%), from 45¢ per ounce to 62¢ per ounce, but you would have both the convenience of not having to refrigerate leftovers or worrying about the product possibly drying out.

Sometimes I can't find the Biome. Would this be a good substitute?

  1. I have no idea, but this was prescribed for my Maine Coon who had a bowel obstruction and emergency surgery.  He ate this and is now a healthy weight.  We switched to non prescription Royal Canin sensitive stomach after he got better and now only eats that.

Is the texture like pate?

  1. Absolutely not!!!!

I have 4 cats. 1 of my cats was prescribed this food by the vet. Is it ok for all of them to eat it? It's a lot easier to feed them all the same thing. Does anyone have thoughts on that? Thanks!

  1. Hi , I feed my cat this prescribed food, it’s very good. Her condition has improved noticeably- and her coat is the healthiest its ever looked in 15 years! To answer your question, I’m sure it would be just fine for your other cats, the only problem might be cost. It’s more expensive than other “non-prescription” cat foods. That’s all.

While I know feeding amounts vary, even my vet is unsure of how much of this I should be feeding my 12 pound maine coon cat on a daily basis. A feeding guide of recommended amounts would be helpful.

  1. My vet told me to give my cat a half a can twice a day and she is just over 7 lbs

Can anyone recommend a non prescription wet food equivalent/ similar to feline id?

  1. Prescription Diet brand pet foods are formulated to address specific medical conditions that can develop in pets. We do not make Science Diet products that serve as substitutions for Prescription Diet products. Hill's Pet Nutrition

what is actual fat% in ID chicken wet. label says minimum so could be much higher and bad

  1. Hi momcat41, The amount of fat in Hill's® Prescription Diet® i/d® Feline is 24.7% on a dry matter basis. This is a moderate level of fat. This ensures that adequate nutrients are given with smaller portions of food. Thanks

Does this come in any other flavor?

  1. Hi Marthee, There is another one with an additional of vegetable stew but in smaller cans, SKU 2685146. Thanks,
