Works in one day

This is very expensive. That being said it worked for our Bullmastiff’s diarrhea when nothing else did. It’s an amazing product.

We've been on this food for about 2.5 months now and wow what a difference!

Our mixed breed lab/shepherd has never had a long run of consistent good stools. Good stools were rare, softer stools the norm, and often significant bouts of diarrhea for weeks. We've tried all sorts of different foods (including the high quality sensitive stomach brands) and mostly resigned ourselves to the fact that we will need to keep Propectalin and Metronidazole available every few weeks. However, now we've been on this Hills Biome food for about 2.5 months now and what a difference it has made. We switched on a whim as a suggestion by our vet who had others pets of her own having issues, and knew what we were goin through. I was hesitant since we were battling 3-4 weeks of pretty significant diarrhea without getting better. But I did a hail-Mary and switched our pups food entirely on day 1. Literally the next day he had a firm and normal stool. I was shocked and my stress level came WAY down. We are now going on many weeks without any issues and completely normal stools and our pup even likes the food a lot. I'm not one to strongly recommend foods to others since I know that every pup is different and some things work better than others for different dogs. I can only say that I'm thankful that at least for now the Hills Biome has worked a miracle for us. My biggest hope is that having our dog on this food long-term is ok for his long term health. I also hope that one day the food will not require a subscription since not all pet stores carry prescription diets.

Miracle Dog Food

Our dog had fine poops for the first year of life. Then the allergies set in. He had soft poops for six months before we finally tried this food (after several other prescription / gut health foods) and within a day we finally had firm poops again. It has been a life changer for our pup. You do need to ensure your dog gets plenty of water as this is a high fiber food--we add water directly to the kibble. My only complaint is there are no other protein choices other than chicken. A beef and fish option would also be really nice.

German shepherd had chronic diarrhea about 6-7 weeks after transitioning to a high quality adult food. We tried a bland chicken and rice diet to no avail(stool would firm up but get worse again as soon as a bit of kibble was added). Vet tried pro pectalin and that did nothing. Vet introduced this food. Stool firmed up within 2 days and our dog loves it (he did not like other kibble much) . We are keeping him on it as long as things continue to go well.

This item works great on my dog and he loves eating it. Another great feature for the 8# bag is the velcro close after you open the bag. It's great to be able and close the bag o e handed. 👌

Ground Pecan Shells?

LK

I like the good but have concerns about ground pecan shells as an ingredient. I see that Hills is now adding ground pecan shells in other varieties too. Hills is the only brand I have identified that includes ground pecan shells and I have seen some information, including from the AKC, stating that ground pecan shells are not safe. Why is this ingredient in the food? Can you reassure me it is safe long term?

Thank you for your review. While feeding pecan meat is not advisable, pecan shells do not contain the same toxic compound as the meat. The shells are considered a safe and beneficial source of fiber and received an official AAFCO definition in 2011.

PETCO IS NOT SET UP TO ACCEPT VET RX!! I contacted my vet after order was placed and I received a email from petco stating that my order would be cancelled. Contacted vet and they approved the Rx with petco but their system or AI never acknowledged their approval. I contacted customer care and also the chat. No resolution, order cancelled. What a waste of time.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 10 of 13 Questions

Is the size of the kibble suitable for French bulldogs?

  1. The kibble is round and flat, about half the diameter of a penny.  We feed it to our Weimaraners, and they barely chew it at all.  I am not sure what size French Bulldogs need, but it is no bigger than kibble you would feed a small poodle.

compare to Nutro Natural Choice Chicken & Brown Rice Recipe Adult Dry Dog Food

My dog has been on canned ID low fat food and has had past pancreatitis.  Want to try Biome canned food to firm up stools more.   Is it low enough fat enough for my dog and will extra fiber be ok?

    1. Yes this was recommended by my vet for my dog with pancreatitis and she has done great on it

Does it comes in small bites? My dog is a 10 pound chihuahua

    1. The bites are small even though there is a German Shepard on the package.  I have an old 16 year old 10 pound dog with a number of teeth missing and a 16 pound 8 year old dog.  Both eat it with no problem. I like to add a tablespoon of the moist (same brand) with it as they think that's special

What are the kcal/cup for Hill's Prescription Diet Gastrointestinal Biome Chicken Flavor Dry Dog Food?

What dog treats work well with the gastrointestinal biome food?

I have a $10 off coupon I received from Hill's Science diet for this food. How do I apply this coupon for an online order?

        1. you can't. call customer service.

My dog has a suspected chicken sensitivity. This food has been suggested to assist with resolving an episode of acute gastroenteritis; will the fact that this is chicken flavored make this counter productive?

        1. Thank you for your inquiry. Our Prescription Diet Gastrointestinal Biome formula actively promotes regular healthy stool and helps reduce risk of future episodes. It is not intended for a pet that has a chicken allergy. We hope this is helpful. Hill's Pet Nutrition

How much a day would you feed a 67 lb dog?

        1. Thank you for your question. We recommend feeding 4 & 1/3 cups per day to a 67 pound dog. However, this feeding amount is intended only as a starting point. It's critical to your pet's health that his or her physical condition be monitored regularly and the feeding amount adjusted as needed. Hill's Pet Nutrition

Will a dog treat be developed that is compatible with this dog food? What can I add to this kibble for a little variety? What can I give my dog, other than a bit of the kibble by hand, to satisfy her desire for a treat?

        1. Thank you for your question. At this time, we do not offer a treat to go along with this product, however, we will be glad to make the suggestion for that product to the company on your behalf. Our products are formulated to be 100% nutritionally complete and address your pet's special needs. When you mix Hill's products or mix another brand of pet food/treats with our products, you may minimize these benefits. Hill's Pet Nutrition
