Feeding For optimum results, feed daily as often as possible, the amount your fish will consume within two to three minutes. For mid-water and bottom feeders allow Hikari First Bites to soak in a cup of aquarium water before feeding. This will cause the food to sink more rapidly allowing these fry better access. Livebearers (ovoviviparous) can consume Hikari First Bites right after birth. Egg layers (oviparous) utilize their yolk sack for nutrition right after birth. Start feeding Hikari First Bites right before the yolk sack is fully consumed. Care should be taken to avoid over-feeding. Excess food can cause water quality problems which may result in heightened stress or serious illness.

Questions
How long is the First Bites good for; like a best by date?
- Best by date is printed on the package, like with groceries. If I recall, it's good for at least 2 years.

Does the package tell you how much to feed? If not how much should I feed my betta fry?
- Yes and no, It gives the cookie cutter answer. In my opinion is the best answer. Start off with the smallest amount you can possibly do and time how long it takes for them to eat it. if it is less than 2 minutes, then give them a little more. The amount you want to give them is what they can eat with in 2 -3 minutes or when they stop eating. If they start spitting the food out, then they are also full. The less that settles to the bottom the better. As they grow you can shift to using fish flake food that you grind with your fingers until they can eat regular sized food(When color becomes apparent, usually)

Can I feed this to 1 day old betta fry and if so how long should I feed them with this? Also once they are done with this food what should I feed the fry?
- Yes you can, You can feed then till they're big enough to eat regular fish food
Helpful?
can this be used for neon tetra fry instead of using baby brine shrimp?
- Yes you can feed this to any fish fry that doesn’t have the egg yolk sag still attached. Live bearers can eat right away
Helpful?
Can this be used for young cichlids? Not fry. My cichlids seem to only be able to eat flake food due to mouths being small. I don't want to use flake food because it gets the tank so dirty. Is there another option?
- You could use First Bites but we suggest our baby pellet, which any size cichlid should be able to eat. Remember, they have the ability to crush the pellets once taken in.

Can this be used for baby bettas?
- I would imagine almost all freshwater baby fish. It's a powder so even the smallest baby fish can eat it.

Can I feed this product to boesemani Rainbow fish fry that just hatched less then a day ago?
- Yes that’s exactly what this product is made for. It floats and because those particular fry stay near the surface it will be easy for them to eat and small enough for them to digest

Can I feed my African dwarf frogs this? I’m trying to find food to feed them
- No its for fish fry it's to small for the frogs it's more granular. Try live or frozen bloodworms beefheart to feed them that will work better.

How long do I feed my angelfish fry with this? They are four weeks old and still giving them the Hikari first bites newborn food. Im wondering if they should be getting a next level food? I still have baby brine shrimp but never got to use them.
- I feed my guppy fry until they are big enough to go into the regular fish tank and not be eaten.

Can this be used for raising brine shrimp
- I personally have not tried this but the granules May be too big for the newly hatched brine. I would recommend golden pearls 5-50 micron instead. It would work for juvenile or adult brine shrimp
