Didn't live up to the hype ... or the price tag.

Door was great while it held up. The design of the segments is nice, and I felt secure in how sturdy the materials and construction were as my dogs finally had a door designed for them. Cleaning and maintenance was very easy as well, I was overjoyed. Unfortunately, the bottom flap that seals the door wore out and would no longer stay attached to the segment above it after roughly 4 months of use. At 14 months the top segment that secures the door to the frame broke at the bearings on each side, leaving me with a $600+ XL hole in my door. Wouldn't recommend unless you've got money to burn.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I bought this door six months ago. The plastic pieces on the side of the flap keep breaking. Ordered a replacement and they broke before we could even install it. I would not recommend this door.

"I would not buy this product. The door flap broke six months after my purchase and continues to break after High Tech Pet sent 2 replacements. I have been denied by both Hi Tech Pet and Petco for a refund since it is a faulty product that broke under warranty but they refused."

No, I do not recommend this product.

Seems well constructed

This is a really solid door with a good metal frame and a unique thick flexible door flap with multiple magnets. We have the extra-large version. It took a few days for our Labradors to get used to it, but they seem pretty comfortable with it now. While it's certainly not "air-tight" it's perhaps the most tightly sealed dog door I've seen. High Tech Pet customer service was great with the one small issue we had.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Helpful to include a cut out template for the dog door. The door's precut holes are too close to the cutout, its a design flaw. The door after a couple of months has slight air gaps along the sides. The door is extremely loud when the dog goes through it.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great Product

We gave a Great Dane who is 130-135pounds who used the XL door everyday with no issues. The product is very weatherproof. We leave our back door open all summer and winter due to the ability of the door to keep weather out. We are moving next month which brings me back to this site, to order another door for our new house.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Since so many are asking and this site does not show these dimensions. I found them here they are for the FLAP 13.38 x 6.38 inches, the Medium measures 17 x 8.25 inches, the Large is 21 x 10.5 and the X-Large is 25 x 12.5 inches.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

1 - 10 of 12 Questions

Are the magnetic properties strong enough to keep cats from using, maybe on an extra large door?

  1. I don't have a cat but my neighbors cat comes over all the time and hasn't been able to come through the door. My small dog has to really push her way through but does so easily after weeks of working with her. I have had 62 MPH winds here and the door still keeps the wind and cold out to. The walls in our house are a foot thick and even though we bought the door with the extension for thick walls, my husband had to manufacture an add on extension for the door. Looks and works great. I wonder if you can buy two and have one on the outside and one on the inside but that means the dogs have to go through two magnetic flaps. Easy for a big dog but my dog on l y weighs 7 pounds.

Is the security door plastic or aluminum?

  1. The door is plastic with a metal frame. It's very stady

does this pet door meet fire safety codes?

  1. The instruction doesn't say anything about that. I suppose you need to contact them directly to get an answer. Here their website http://hightechpet.com/

how does the security panel work? does it lock in to place or does it just slide in to place?

  1. It just slides into place from top to bottom with a mechanical latch (not lock) at the top. There's no way to remove it from the outside short of smashing through it, but can be removed by humans (requires finger/thumb grasp) not pets, from the inside.

I have different size dogs. Can a small dog, Chihuahua, push thru the flap on an XL door?

  1. Yep. I have 4 dogs. From a 13 lb chihuahua to a 65 lb staffy. They all use it. Except the little one is always afraid of being run over. LOL

Can you buy a replacement flap

The description/photos show it is for wall mount, but the measurements and questions all refer to door mount.  I would like to verify it is for wall mount as well and if yes, how thick of wall will it accommodate?

    1. There is a separate wall kit you can purchase to extend it for walls I'm not sure if that's available from Petco, but you can get it directly from High Tech Pet.

Do the large and extra large sizes fit into a 1 3/4 inch deep door?

I need to know the rough cut opening for the XL door ?

The description shows the size of the opening for only the small door: the size of the opening the dogs can use doesn't change when you change to other size doors (just the total product size is shown). Can someone fix that?

        1. The dimensions update under the Attributes/Specifications tab.
