out of 5 bags 3 were busted open but they offered a refund so I am happy about that it seemed like a defect in the bags so I dont think it was petcos fault but the blend looks great in the picture but the stuff I got was all safflower seeds minimal other stuff. I get this to add to my birds pellet and I was kind of disappointed in this. it will do but the picture should look like what you are getting!

This food was much better when it was Higgins California Blend before becoming Vitaseed . Was almost a. Trail mix of good almonds, papaya, etc in larger pieces and a small amount if seeds. Now is almost pulverized. Small pieces. 1st few had few almonds - last package had 3-4 whole almonds I use only as a treat occasionally. Would much prefer the old formula - parrots do not need this much seed. At least it's safflower seed instead of the very fattening sunflower seeds. A Plus.

I absolutely love Higgins and have provided the vita-cockatiel mix to my Parrotlets for months, but I must say that this mix for larger parrots is filled with majority safflower. I'd say it's 80% safflower and 20% everything else, hardly any larger ingredients. I only bought this as an emergency mix, but there's a good chance I'll be returning it. Lots of vets recommend against a seed/nut diet and push pellets. It's not beneficial for small birds, unless there's a health issue due to their metabolism, small size and energy. Seeds and nuts, especially sprouted, can provide lots of essential nutrients. Although, for larger Parrots, it's not the same case. They tend to be lazier and pickier, resulting in liver issues. With that being said, this has waaaaay too much safflower for me to feel comfortable offering it to them. I'm surprised this isn't the "safflower blend". - Parrot breeder and Petco employee

I've been feeding Ollie this food for a few years now. The only thing I add to it is pistachios in their shell. She absolutely loves this food and there is very, very little waste. This is a quality food and a good investment.
