Tangs are commonly referred to as surgeon fish due to having a sharp spine that looks like a "scalpel" at the base of their caudal (tail) fin that is used for protection, use caution when handling. Adults tend to live alone in the wild, so they should not be kept with fish that look similar, like other tangs. However, they should be peaceful towards most other tank mates. Adult Half Black Mimic Tangs are found over the sandy and coral substrates of clear channels of the Western Pacific. Juveniles inhabit areas around reef flats up to 6 meters deep. The Half Black Mimic Tang received its name because it closes resembles the dwarf Half Black Angel (Centropyge vroliki). They will grow to be about 10" in size and have a gray face that fades into black with a vibrant blue lining on the caudal fin. Full grown adults of this tang will need around 150 gallons; however, you can get away with smaller aquariums when they are juveniles.

ACCLIMATION: Avoid exposing new aquatic life to bright lights after opening the box. Turn off aquarium lights prior to floating aquatic life. Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. A bacteria booster addition can assist with the addition of new aquatic life. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe for the addition of new aquatic life. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried and frozen foods, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller aquariums.
