Great litter box

Brenda in T X

I have 2 of these litter boxes that I’ve had for over a year. I love them. I stopped using the top liner because my cats kept shredding them. In the bottom drawer I use a kitchen trash bag. It has to be stretched a little, but it works. I use grass seed litter with it. I have 4 cats and they work well for us.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I like this litter box. Now you have to rotate the handle for dumping the waste into the bottom part slowly and not with force (learned that from other reviews) and I had to leave to door up for a few days until my cats started to use it. This litter box saves me time and no scooping! I change the bottom tray bag one time a week and I also sprinkle arm & hammer cat litter deodorizer in the waste bag too when I replace it. Big size cat box as well.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Worst litter box on the planet

If I could give this litter box zero stars, I would. I was so excited to get something that I could easily scoop every day bc of back problems. You have to use very little litter for it to work at all. This results in goopy, sticky mess all over the rake, which you have to touch to change out the liner on the top portion. 🤢 speaking of the top liner, the cats just tear it up trying to dig in the extremely shallow litter pan. If you try to use it without a top liner to get around the issue, the litter just sticks to the pan because you can’t use enough to clump properly. I’ve touched more soiled cat litter in the last month of trying to get this thing to be usable than I have in my 25+ years of owning cats. I highly regret spending money on it!

No, I do not recommend this product.

I have recently purchased the item figuring it would be easier and it’s not. I have two cats and the handle keeps falling off. It was such a waste of money.

I've had two of these boxes for over a year and I still love them. I use non-clumping silica litter and the box is SO fast to clean. (If I didn't use silica, I would use either a different non-clumping litter or else a REALLY well-releasing clumping litter. There's a special online-only version of Platinum Slide that might work well.) I empty the drawer immediately so waste and smells don't accumulate, but even with that step, it takes like fifteen or twenty seconds to clean the box, including knocking any solids off the grate with a litter scoop, which is the only unavoidable hitch in this design, but it's no big deal. The silica pulls the moisture out of them so they don't leave a big smeary mess behind. I haven't had any problems with any urine leaks. I leave the entry flaps open, so can't speak to those except to say that they seem standard to me. The mechanism does rely on the lever being flexible enough to bend out of the locked position for sifting and then pop back into the lock slot afterwards, so you do have to go easy on it, but it works as it should, so I think any breakage would just be a flaw in the plastic pour. I hope CatIt would replace that part for us if it broke... Anyway, overall, I can't believe this box isn't better rated.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good concept, cheap materials, poor design

Due to having owned a self cleaning litter box many years ago when they first hit the market.... I have been hesitant on going that route again due to having a multi-cat home, and well, sometimes cats have an upset tummy that causes loose BM, scooper goes to clean and not as smooth of process one would think... Became a bigger mess and more time consuming when cleaning, so went back to using old school box with scoop. I decided to give this one a try and ordered this directly from the manufacture looking for an alternative and assistance since I am scooping litter boxes 3-4 times a day due to having multi cat home.. We have a finicky cat as well, and if the litter box is not cleaned to her preference, she will hound me till its done even will wake me up for it. I work from home from 4 AM till 10-11 PM everyday. When it arrived, I pulled it from box and it was easy to assemble. Added the cat litter and replaced one of the litter boxes we have with this.... Well, soon as my cat got in, it semi fell apart/detached from the lever making a slight mess. Put it back together, second attempt. Cat used it and went to go through the steps for "self cleaning" and wasted more litter that was dumped into the waste bin below. Lever again detected while in the process. And again had to go and reattach. Was disappointed with the overall product, and what appears to be cheap materials (Plastic). I was also little puzzled on the way the item is constructed and did not seem to be able to possibly hold kitty waste with out a smell being noticed within a couple of days.. The lower waste bin did not appear to have a self enclosed (seal) to the waste receptacle to prevent such odors... Hence the reason I scoop our litter boxes multiple times a day.. Anyone who has a multi-cat home knows that the biggest culprit and sign you have cats is the fact Litter box are not cleaned regularly and waste sits causing a very foul aroma that is hard to remove from your home that is extremely unpleasant, and not just for the cats Master but for the cat themselves. Gave 2 Stars due to good concept, however, this definitely needs some modifications for a smoother operation process and without falling apart. Due to our multi-cat home I am always replacing their litter boxes once a year and two years max just for the reason plastic tends to retain the smell as well and I do not care how many times it is cleaned.. Its Plastic.. Not a fan of cat pan liners either due to our cats claws seem to puncture it when covering.

The most expensive cheap plastic junk i have ever purchased. The lever broke in less than 2 weeks and customer support was no help at all. I threw a $90 litter box in the garbage and ordered a litter robot.

Why is this so expensive? It's nearly $90, but that's MAYBE $20 worth of plastic. Tops.

Does the one pictured in this ad come with the lid? Haven't seen anything in the description that says either way. And other places have same thing but significantly more expensive.

    1. Yes, it comes with everything you need!

Can it be used with crystals?

    1. Yes, it can.

What size liners can I use for the cat it smart sift? Can I use garbage can liners or bags? How do I get my cat to walk into the swinging door?

    1. Any

    Does it use clumping litter?

    1. Yes. That's one of the things I like about it.

what are the overall dimensions of the Catit Smart Sift litter box? Is it available at my Petco in Portland?

    1. The litter box is 26 inches long, 19 inches wide and 25 inches high.

Is this item available in stores?

    1. The Petco store I returned my litter box to said they don't carry this model in their store. This was in Altamonte Springs, FL.

what is the best litter to go in this & how do you make this "non-stick"?

    1. I would recommend the clumping corn litter from PetSmart as it is bio degradable and can be flushed. And a cheap food grade non stick oil such as Pam that others have mentioned.

    1. Any clumping litter can be used.

    litter

    1. samanthavictoriajohnson, Thank you for your question. To ensure that the SmartSift Sifting Cat Pan works properly it is recommended to be used with clumping litter.
