Randomly broke 3 wks after purchase, dog ran away

We purchased this collar for our dog 2.5 weeks ago, we’re quite familiar with prong collars and how they work. It frankly isn’t the best design (can only slide the looping piece through at 1 angle because 2 sides are too long) but was servible until the prongs slipped apart while the collar was slack. Once the collar literally fell off our dog, she ran. We found her but we will NEVER use this collar again. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS UNLESS YOU WANT TO LOSE YOUR DO

The quick release mechanism is not solid steel like the links. I think it’s a cheap foundry pour. My dog is a 100lb lab and he quickly broke the release mechanism by tugging. I thought it was just an anomaly and I made the mistake of buying another. On a walk we passed a dog that lunged at my dog. He lunged back and broke the same piece again. The collar is great, the quick release mechanism is an inferior product. Don’t buy it if you have a big dog.

Garbage!! I've had multiple prong collars but had left ours at home so grabbed this. The quick release would often just come undone. Tried to return but they wouldn't without the package. I threw it away walking out of the store 🤦‍♀️

I bought this collar to see its effectiveness. It sure works. My large dog has lessened his pulling/tugging while on a leash.

Dangerous! Not for powerful dogs!

This was wonderful for my 100 lb American Bulldog UNTIL an unleashed dog charged at us and started biting. He usually ignores other dogs but his defensive side kicked in when he saw my son getting bit. My boy pulled one good time and completely straightened the metal on quick release clip, leading to a horrifying situation. He got bit several times before he could pin the aggressor down. Thankfully, he only held that dog down and didn't rip his throat out. If you have this prong collar already- PLEASE use a clip and attach it to another collar as your backup! If you are considering it and have a strong, powerful dog, keep searching, this isn't safe for you or your dog. PETCO- I'm not the only one. Read these reviews and pull this from the shelves before more dogs are hurt or killed!

I bought this collar less than a year ago. The quick release part broke off as shown in another comment below, which allowed my dog to get loose. I was told by the "professional" at the pet store that this collar would be the best for my St. Bernard and most durable since he's figured out a way to get out of all the other types I have tried. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this collar

I bought this, put it on our dog, and pulling on the leash ended immediately. We've only had it for 2 weeks, so we still use it, but even when we don't, he has changed his leash manners 100%.

Is there a company that makes a collar like this for a st bernard?? I have a 180lb st bernard, he's huge and needs a large collar but I cannot find one to fit his head/neck. Can you expand this one

  1. Hi mgagne, Your feedback has been forwarded and will be evaluated by the appropriate Petco department. Thanks

Is this collar strong enough for a 70 lb boxer. Also will it go over her head?   What I saw the benefit of this Prong vs the capped prong on the other model

  1. A pronged collar, whether capped or not, is a useful training tool but needs to be used appropriately, so ask a dog trainer you trust to show you proper use. It doesn’t go over the head but rather to put it on, think of it as a necklace.  You will have to clasp snd unclasp it.  I have used this with my dogs ranging from 30 lbs to 80 lbs.

Would this collar be appropriate for a 7# strong puller min pin rescue?

  1. I have the smallest collar for my min pin rescue and it works very well
