Softer than they used to be

My dog has chewed on these her whole life. These rib bones used to be harder and would last for months/years. But now my frenchie can chew off large chunks very easily. I think the brand has changed where the source the bones from. Maybe they are younger cows than they used to be so the bones are not as strong?

Deadly and dangerous!!!!!

I bought The Good Lovin' Hickory Smoked Beef Rib Bone Dog Chews for my dog because it said moderate chewers and I wanted her to have a natural way to clean her teeth. This is what she picked out so I decided it would be a good size for her because bones we have gotten in the past were to big and she is awkward about chewing on bigger bones or just won't chew them at all. After we got home I took the bone out of the package checked the bone to make sure there were no visible breaks or sharp ends like I always do with her bones to ensure they are safe for her to chew on. Im not joking when I say these bones are a danger and deadly to your dog after I gave her the bone she started chewing on it with my supervision after 10 seconds I heard multiple breaks so I took the bone away and inspected it immediately then I noticed that this bone had broken in half and was splintered and had sharp edges. She had swallowed peices of the bone! Don't ever buy these for your dog im appalled the Petco even puts these on their shelves and willing sells them to their customers. I also went onto petcos website and saw numerous reviews about these being dangerous and not okay for dogs to chew on I also saw that people had to take their dogs to the ER because of these of course after the damage was done!!!! They are aware of the danger these bones cause so why are they still being sold?

No, I do not recommend this product.

Brought this bone today, gave it to my one year old dog, he’s a heavy chewer, took him about 15 min to completely eat the bone and leave only about 3/4 of it, I was watching him even closer for the end part of the bone because it is a smaller piece and I usually hold it for him because it is slippery, a couple seconds in I notice that the bone is very brittle and there’s pieces of sharp bone breaking off of it, It’s very scary to see and it’s only been 30 min since he ate the bone (I ended up throwing the end part away) and he has not thrown up yet but I’m scared that he might’ve swallowed some sharp bits or something. I do not recommend for a heavy chewer or any dog. He went through it very fast and it has sharp bones coming off of it.

These ribs are dangerous. I can't believe Petco even sells them. I gave them to my two pomapoos and the boy chewed on his all day until I noticed there were sharp pieces laying all over the floor. I flipped out and cleaned them all up and threw bones away. That night my Ralfie started throwing up after he ate and again the next day. Took him to the vet and they did an x-ray. There were little pieces of something in his stomach. Since he didn't have anything to eat but that rib and the meal he threw up, you can guess what it was. Had to stop feeding him for 24 hrs. and then put him on chicken and rice. He is fine now but never again will I buy these bones. If I hadn't seen them splintering up, who knows how many little sharp pieces he would have eaten. He might be a dead dog now. So if you still decide to buy these bones, at least, watch your dog while he is eating them.

Questions

1 - 6 of 6 Questions

Were these the ones on Judge Judy that caused serious injury warranting surgery on a dog because they splinter or accumulate into a cement-like substance in the dog's stomach, if so, how do you justify continuing to sell them?

How do i store the remaining bones once the pack is opened? Should the other 5 sticks be refrigerated?

    1. Hi Tpcconfident, Good day! It is recommended to store the extra rib bones at room temperature out of the sun. Never refrigerate them. The bones can be placed in a bag, but we recommend putting some pin prick holes in the bag so the bones can breathe. Thanks,

is my dog supposed eat this entire bone? He breaks off pieces and swallows them

    1. Hi CharlieP3, Please follow instructions on the package. CAUTION: this is a pet chew. Not intended for human consumption. Always supervise pet while eating to ensure pet breaks chew down into small pieces before consuming. If chew is consumed rapidly and in large chunks, there are dangers of choking or gastrointestinal blockage. If chew becomes wet, some color transfer may occur.” Thanks,

    How long are these?

    1. Hi Kate RF, Length will vary as these are cut based on weight, however they should be between 8 and 10 inches. Thanks,

Are these safe to give large breed puppies?

    1. Hi John90733, Yes, specially for strong-chewers. Thanks

My dog has gnawed these so much that she is starting to grind the bone away, is this a problem?

    1. Hi ACapedKnight, It is okay if the bones will not crack and splinter. We suggest that you contact your local Petco store's specialists for further advice. Thanks,
