Filter is LOUD and killed brand new fish

The glofish aquarium is cool and convenient as the white and blue led lights come with the kit. However, the Tetra Whisper filter is loud and the suction from the pump killed 3 brand new fish in less than 12 hours! I went back to Petco and bought a FLUVAL filter. I do not recommend the filter/pump system that came with this kit!

I have had 25 and 50 gallon tanks. No issues. Moved, less space. Bought this one, no luck. Tetras died. Cleaned the tank, had water tested, it was perfect. Bought fish, dead in 6 hours.

Bought this tank as we moved and downsized. Filter was too strong for glofish tetras. Lost 5 getting stuck on the tube. Finally had to buy another filter for it…seems to be working.

Bought our tank kit yesterday. Cleaned it per instructions, put out decorations in, set up pump and heater. Was cycling the tank as out 7 year old was excited and a bit inpatient for his first pet. Not even 24 hours having the tank heard a pop and 10 gallons of water flooded our living room. Thank goodness we was home. Cleaned up the mess, should have checked the reviews before purchasing. This doesn't appear ours was the only one with this issue. The glass on the bottom a huge chunk just broke out, and the glass cracked all the way across the bottom. Had I tried to pick it up to get to sink there would have been a bigger mess and possible injury. Now my 7 year old and wife are scared to even try another tank for the fear this will happen again when we aren't home. Buyer beware!!!!

Bought this tank and set it up with the fresh start product and glofish water balance product. I bought testing strips and everything is in a normal range except a bit hard water. The fish keep dying over night. What can I do?? Tanks reading at 76..

      I think a bigger tank is better. Those cam get up to over 1 ft long and you want it to be comfortable

    The wire for the led lights is touching the water - is this an issue or are the lights waterproof?

      Hi there! The wires shouldn't be touching the water. The lid has grooves where you fit them into. There are several grooves in a specific setting that the lights should be placed in for the wires to fit in. The pictures on the box should help with how you should set them. And as far as I know, the lights are definitely water resistant.

    What makes this a Glofish tank? The back is clear and the led lights are standard white and blue. It's a good starter aquarium package but it seems to be a normal tank.

      It's because the the what you think are just plain blue and white led lights combine to create a blacklight effect but if you want to really kick it up a notch put a glofish background on the tank and you a glofish gravel. All these things are created to make your fish colors pop.

    Can this be used for fish other than GloFish?

      Yes you don’t have to use glofish. Just make sure you turn the light off overnight so they can get a break.
