A vet that specializes in neurology provided me with Gabapentin 50 mg tabs to give my cat twice a day. There are no numbers on them, just white round scored tablets. Evertthing I google says lowest dose is 100 mg. Concerned I may have been given the wrong medication.
If the dose of Gabapentin is so small, why is it only available in 100mg capsules? That means I have to break open the capsule and divide it into thirds for my cat!
My dog was prescribed 600mg/day of Gabapentin as an adjunct to Meloxicam for arthritic knee pain. I read that 1.4 mg per pound of weight is the standard dose for dogs for pain. 600 mg seems excessive. What in your opinion is the standard dose for a 90-lb. male lab mix who’s 13 years old (a senior dog)? Thanks.
Quinton takes 50 mg of gabapentin every 12 hrs but I have to break open the capsules and put the powder in his mouth. This morning I think I missed getting all of the 50 mg in his mouth so I gave him a little more. If I gave him too much is this an overdose. He is hard to give meds and he had a little more left after I was sure I got morein his mouth. Will this harm him.
My cat (~4 kg, 12.5 yrs old) I think, ingested a 300 mg cap of gabapentin about 18 hrs ago. It took us a while to find his hiding place, because he didn't come when we called him. When we found him, his pupils were so dilated that there was only was only a thin ring of orange; they are almost back to normal in the past 2 hrs. He still won't drink even h2o on his lips, is lethargic & is staggering. He has tried to groom a tad, & he did pee a normal amt & color on a paper pad. No vomit or diarh.
Checking dosage for pain in M cat recently cleared bladder obstruction. Currently taking 0.25 mL buprenorphine (0.3mg/mL) every 8 hrs. Told to ADD 1mL (50mg/mL) gabapentin every 12 Hrs. Just want to make sure this is ok. Not clear if the tech who gave the gabapentin was aware of the buprenorphine. Cat is 4.8 kg.
Hello Dr. Looking for some clarity on human gabapentin in cats. My previous veterinarian told me (since I have a prescription myself) to just give my healthy 2 year old cat a 100mg of my gabapentin before future vet visits for her travel anxiety. He moved away and she’s due for an annual visit and needs a teeth cleaning. She’s 8.6lbs. If this is a safe dosage, can the powder within the capsule be mixed with food?
You American eskimo and was given 100mg of Gabapentin for pain...is that too much because he is having side effects from it. We already brought him to the vet's twice for unsteadiness, and sleeping alot. He is eating and drinking a blain diet right now and has stopped the Gabapentin. They never did X-rays but they did do blood work a week ago and everything was good. Could it just be side effects making him unsteady and seem confused? The picture is him eating but standing like he is fighting.
My dog is 14 years old and weighs 55lbs. His vet recently put him on 600mg of gabapentin per day for mild pain relief. He’s been out of it and basically sedated since then, so I researched it and it looks like 600mg is way higher than the recommended dose. The vet refuses to say there was any mistake and that he should continue with 600mg. Does that seem right? Should I be looking for a new vet?
Hi I gave my cat 200 mg of gabapentin and now she is laying down and doesn’t want to walk around. She is breathing if that helps, will she be ok? She usually gets 100 mg and she is 9lbs
I have a gabapentin prescription for my one-year-old cat for 100mg to sedate him on a long car ride. I recently got a four-month-old kitten. Can I give him the same medication?
My rotti is on 400 mg of gabapentin for pain. Tonight he is extra sore.he had 400 mg 3 hours ago, is it safe to give more
