Is this safe on a 4 month old Siberian kitten (triple coat growing in) w/out pulling all of the kitten fur out?

With summer season upon us, my cat has been spitting up hairballs more frequently. I'm guessing when she grooms herself she is ingesting a lot of fur, which is causing the spit-up. Also, my cat is a "medium hair." Should I get the long-hair version?

My lynx point siamese kitty sheds like crazy, no matter what I seem to do. I have heard brushing everyday helps but i have been doing that for several weeks, at least 10 to 20 min a day and it hasn't seemed to lessen the shedding at all. I cant even pet her without getting handfuls of fur. I understand cats shed of course but she is short haired and the shedding is 100 times worse than my other 4 cats. My cat is a Maine coon mix. I just got him shaved in the lion cut. Now he has what seems to be a mat right on his jaw line. He's not very cooperative with brushing. It's there anything I can use to get this mat out?
