My pup was having tummy and teeth issues and dint want to eat her regular kibble. We thought we would give freshpet a try….she loves it! She’s back to eating full meals and I no longer worry if she’s getting proper nutrition.

Vital chicken smell

Michael

I have purchased the chicken vital atleast 7 times and have never had this before. Just wondering if anyone else had the vital tube's that had a taint smell like rotten milk? I have already revisited the store that I purchased it from and they also said that it was not normally how the chicken vital is supposed to smell. I also called the number of the package and spoke with (nathen) there phone agent. He said that there are no recalls. I was offered a email coupon and he was apologetic. Am watching my fur babies closely. Hoping they are fine. I did not want to induce vomiting hope they will be OK. But the smell is very distinctive. By the time I put the food down for them and started to clean the wrapper up and noticed the smell it was too late. They ate all that I gave them. From now on I will smell everything before I give them anything. Hope it is just me over reacting and nothing will become of it. But I have never smelled that taint from the chicken vital before. It normally smells like baloney. But this had no smell till the wrapper got a few inches from the nose

I have been feeding this to my dog for a few months. She loves it, she is very healthy with a healthy coat. No stinky poop. Serving are easy, just slice and serve though I prefer to break it down. Best is that the food is great and I'm not paying $200 a month for it

I have two Italian Greyhounds that are super picky. For two years I made them fresh food using vets recipes, but sometimes it was not convenient. Tried other "fresh" brands and they let me know that it was not acceptable. Finally, tried FreshPet and they are soooooo happy. They sniffed then gobbled it up. I like the balance of meat, veggies and fruit!

Best option for finicky eaters and dogs in need.

Sherrie

I learned from a previous super finicky dog that sometimes this semisoft food can help a lot. I just got a new dog and she came with bad dandruff, swollen crusty legs, and consider hairloss with itching/scratching all across her under side from chin to tail. I knew she needed a dry food for allergies (grain-free and preferably no beef). I bought the dry food that was perfect for her, but she refused to eat it at all. I took some of this Vital refrigerated semi-soft food and coated the dry food with it. She gobbled it down like she's never had good food before in her life! After three days on this special diet, her swollen legs are back to normal, she has more energy and zest for life, and she's now running around like she feels good. When I picked her up a few days ago, she was so lethargic and looked sick and uncomfortable, constantly scratching. I felt so bad for her. It was the weekend and no vet was available. My experience just goes to show that good food is EVERYTHING if your dog has allergic tendencies. I highly recommend using this product has a regular diet, and boost to boring dry food, and as a means to hide medication. I started giving her loratadine (Claritin) antihistamine for the itching and it reduced her distress from digging with her back feet to just licking and gnawing gently. I was able to hide the tablet in a piece of Vital. Thank you so much for providing a very versatile dog food!!

Questions

Can this be frozen?

  1. Yes. This can be frozen. I slice mine into small wedges and leave in small baggies in the freezer. I give medicine (smashed pill form) with them and my dog loves it.

Yes, I have the bag fresh pet bottles fresh cut chicken recipe. Does it have to be refrigerated before it’s opened

  1. Yes.....always!

In the Torrington,CT Petco, Why are they charging $30.29 for a 6lb loaf of FreshPet Vital Chicken/ Brown Rice and Carrots when online it  says $18.49 for a 6lb loaf of the same and available in the Torrington Petco?

  1. I do not live in CT, but I would guess that the local store has probably higher overhead, and those are then passed on to the customer. I apologize if my answer is not too much help.

Someone else has asked this question, but there is no reply.  WHAT IS THE SODIUM CONTENT OF FRESH PET VITAL... CHICKEN, TURKEY, AND SALMON RECIPES?

How long can it be refrigerated if it stays unopened?

    1. It has an expiration date on each roll.  The ones that I have don’t expire until 11/03/2021.

    Can puppies eat this?

Can the Vital dog food be frozen ?

      1. Yes. I buy the large size for my small dogs because it costs about half as much per pound.  I cut it into pieces that will each last 4-5 days, then use my Foodsaver to vacuum seal them.  I don't let it go all the way with the vacuum because it pulls too much moisture out, just until the air is gone, then I hit the seal button.

Can you microwave it to warm it up

      1. I do...10-15 seconds

what is a french bulldog average size meal? Portion per roll?

My dos loves this product but he is only 15 lbs therefore the meat loses its quality and he won't eat it. Can I freeze half the roll when I purchase to keep its freshness? We keep it in the roll and then a plastic bag, air tight.

        1. Yes. My dog is 13 lbs and eats 1/2 pound a day broken out over 2 meals (he's thin so can handle a little more quantity). I buy the 6 lb roll and cut it into half pound slices. I then wrap it in plastic wrap and aluminum foil, put it in a ziploc freezer bag, put it in the freezer and take it out when needed. The texture changes slightly after it has been thawed but it did not make a difference at all to my dog; he ate it just the same.
