Tank and light are nice. Filter on other hand is not good. Use a back filter

Will drown critters with arms or legs!

I love everything about this aquarium EXCEPT that it drowns small frogs and shrimp. Any curious critter that gets near the filter intake gets sucked into it. We lost several frogs and shrimp that got their arms or legs caught and drowned - heartbreaking. The only solution that sort of worked was to place a rock against the intake. Unfortunately it slows circulation in the tank tho...

Fluval 5 gallon Spec V Aquarium Kit White

This Fluval Spec V is my 4th one, which I plan to transfer my cherry shrimp to, once it's cycled, and after a few minor filter modifications. My other 3 spec v's, have 1 each male betta and a golden nerite snail in them, and they are all planted tanks. This is by far, the best 5 gallon tank out there for bettas, shrimp and smaller fish, and snails, plus plants. Easy to setup and maintain, and you can get all the replacement parts easily, if needed.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Very slick Spec V. If you are familiar with these tanks, then you will be happy with this version. this is for my work office that is white, so it is perfection. If you don't own a Spec V look up a few videos. They have a few drawbacks; not deal breakers, but you should know what you're getting yourself into.

Yes, I recommend this product.

What should we use to help calm the flow down for our Betta fish? We already turned the switch to the low side but it still seems too much

  1. Its crazy how strong it is at low. I use a Fluval Pre-filter Sponge. It fits right over the intake and works perfectly. https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/fluval-edge-pre-filter-sponge

How many gallons of water does this hold? Petco says 5 gal but the description says 2 gallon capacity..

  1. 5 gallons of water

Is this okay for a betta? Also, I saw it has a sponge filtration system, would I need to get an air pump for it?

  1. Don't turn off the filter for you betta. It will kill the good bacteria that keeps your tank healthy.

If I Put The Filter On The Lowest Setting, Will It Be Good For My Betta?

How large is the opening below the light? I want to make sure my cat won't be able to reach a paw in.

    1. The opening would most likely allow for a cat to put its paw in. The opening has a light over it, but it is somewhat flimsy in that it would easily move out of the way if nudged at the end furthest away from where it is attached.

Can i put two guppies and three pigmy cory catfish in this tank.

    1. No! this tank is way two small for the corydoras, and i would only put 3 guppies in it

Where can I get the specs for new power cord for the lamp?

Is this tank suitable for a betta or is the flow too strong

      1. It has too strong of a flow even on the lowest setting, but this can easily be fixed. I put a piece of filter sponge inside the tube of the filter to slow down the flow. You could also attach a prefilter sponge to the output of the filter.

would this tank be suitable for a vanilla crayfish or pea puffers? I'm worried about the filtration not being enough for either. Of course I wouldn't house the two species together.

      1. One pea puffer would do well in this tank, though you may need to do some DIYing on the filter. Vanilla crayfish, however, need a much bigger tank.

Is this the new version with the touch lamp?  Also does is this glass or plastic?

      1. Hi Takanoa The aquarium is made of glass and comes with a touch lamp (meaning there is no on/off switch). You just tap the light to turn it on, off, etc. This keeps the light fixture looking really sleek and simple above the aquarium. Thanks,
