13.5 Fluval Evo Marine

Jeremy26

I purchased this tank in November 2024, and it has now been running for about a month and a few weeks. After completing the cycling process, I’ve had two Black Ocellaris Clownfish in the tank for about a week, and I’m overall satisfied with the setup. The concept of the tank is great, but there are a few things I’d like to highlight based on my experience. For one, I added a Red Sea ATO+ (Auto Top Off) to help keep the water level stable. This has been a fantastic addition to my tank. It tops off the water and tracks the temperature and how much water it’s adding each hour. When I first started cycling the tank, I lost a gallon of water in the first month, so this ATO has been a welcomed improvement. As for the temperature, I’ve been consistently recording around 78.8°F daily with the Aqueon preset heater. My house tends to be on the cooler side, so I haven’t encountered the overheating issue that some other users have mentioned. However, my biggest complaint is the lid design. I wish it was more thoughtfully designed. A flat-top mesh lid would be much more practical for those who plan on customizing the tank over time. Additionally, if you add equipment or accessories to the back of the tank, it becomes nearly impossible to keep the small lid over the back reservoir in place. This can be a bit frustrating, especially for cable and cord management. It would be great if there were better options for organizing cables in the back. Overall, I do like the tank and think it has great potential, but there are a few design improvements that could make it even better for customization and convenience.

Excellent saltwater setup!

Solid investment for novice to advanced aquatic enthusiast. Includes LED light fixture that will keep low light corals alive. I recommend upgrading the factory pump down the road and adding a circulation pump (MaxiJet etc). Protein skimmer works great (if you buy it, not included), you just need to accept that it will need regular fine tuning adjustments to the airflow for optimal skimming. Don’t forget to add your regular supplements (Reef Builder, Iodine, etc) and you be very successful. Don’t add a heater, it’s completely unnecessary, as the pumps will warm the water (even in cold weather). I purchased one for my classroom 3 years ago. None of the fish have died, mushroom anemones are blooming beautifully, and my green star polyps look amazing.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I bought this tank and had it for nearly 3 yrs before I had to move. I had to upgrade the LED light to handle coral. I upgraded the heater which fits nicely in the back compartment. My two clown fish, bubble tip anenamy were very happy. Great to learn the hobby before spending a lot of money.

Great Kit for Saltwater Beginner

Cody B

My family had freshwater fish tanks on and off when I was a child, and in the past couple years I have gotten into freshwater planted tanks. Saltwater aquariums have been intimidating to me, but after looking into things for a while the Fluval EVO seemed like an amazing choice and value. After receiving the tank and setting it up, I must say my research was spot on. Everything that you need other than a heater is in the box. Not sure why the heater was not in there, but I’d say with the quality of the tank, lid, light, and media provided it’s still a great value. Im excited to get started with fish and add some corals later, and if I really catch the bug, there are tons of optional upgrades for this tank that you don’t need to keep saltwater fish and beginner corals, but you can get them and improve this tank without having to start an entirely new setup.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Amazing Deal On An Amazing Reef Tank

Dusten904

Recently purchased an Aqueon 14 when Petco was running a 50% off deal. Thought it was too good to be true. After reading all the horrible reviews on it, I returned it with no issues. The Fluval Evo 13.5 came highly recommended for beginners in reefing. After applying all the available discounts, I picked up in store and got the kit for around $135. Amazing deal for a $200 AIO kit that comes with everything you need to get started except for a heater, sand and live rock. Very pleased with this purchase.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I really like this design. Can it be used with fresh water fish also?

So i want to start having a pet clownfish,, is this tank will work and what should i do before i add the clownfish? Can i get live sand and coral rocks from the ocean? Please fill me in..

    1. You don't want anything from the ocean other than possibly fish. Rock and sand can harbor all kinds of things you don't want. But even then the aqua-cultured specimens are readily available these days and don't require wild caught. Especially clowns.

Where do you get replacement media bags

Would this tank fit on a 20-gallon stand?

Does the light have a timer? If not, is there an good timer to use with this?

        1. It does not. I use the Coralife ESU Aqualight Digital Power Center also available on this site.

Does this tank come with any accessories for inside the aquarium?  If not, what would I need to purchase to begin?

        1. This tank doesn't come with any accessories. You'd need substrate, rock, saltwater, a powerhead, water heater, bacteria and water conditioner to start.

Can additional lights be added, or can theLED’s that come with the kit be replaced with other lights? Thx

        1. Have replace with a glass top and your choice of new light.

I bought this tank but for some reason I feel like I need a better filter and suggestions ??

        1. You can upgrade the pump with Eheim COMPACTON 1000 Aquarium Pump which increases your GPH thru the pump from 132 to 264 GPH essentially doubling your filtration. Also intank make media baskets you can put into chamber 1 and a plug for the whole in chamber 2 so it will flow better thru the chambers.

How does this filter work exactly? Does it clean from the bottom? Or only the top water ? Would I need to buy any current machine? Does it come with a protein skimmer in the filter? Does it come with a heater in the filter? Thank you

        1. 1. The filter pump pulls in water from the bottom of the tank and exits at nozzels at top of tank. 2. the water is sucked through the foam--carbon & Bio max media before exiting back into tank at top nozzles. 3. Best to have a small additional water circulation pump at opposite end of tank especially if your going to have saltwater fish and corals. 4. System does not come with a skimmer or heater. You'll need to purchase separately. If your new to the hobby weekly water changes of 15 to 20% is essential to a healthy environment.
