I did a lot of research prior to purchasing a tank and what was needed to properly care for a Betta Fish. I bought this tank off of seeing great reviews of Fluval. Initially, the tank is very easy to setup and is also very easy to decorate as it has a decent amount of space. I let the tank run approx. 3-4 weeks before adding my betta fish to the tank which was fine, no issues. After awhile, naturally the algae started to grow so I decided to add shrimp first and then a snail. The biggest issue with this tank is the filter and the horizontal slit that is in the lower portion of the tank. It sucked up all of the shrimp and my snail one time. The shrimp died, however, I was able to save the snail in time. The filter does an alright job but does need to be replaced quite frequently. I am now experiencing cloudy water which will not go away even with a water additive. I plan on getting a new tank due to these aforementioned problems. If you plan on just getting a fish with no other life in the water, this tank will probably work alright, but I feel there are better options. Will still continue to use Fluval products besides this tank. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE STARTING AN AQUARIAM.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Tank won’t stay clean/horrible filter

Bought this close to 6 months ago at least. Switched from an old back tank filter. This fluval tank is beautiful! But I’ve struggled with cloudy water and algae build up since day one! I’ve tried just about everything but at this point I’m having to clean the tank weekly and stressing out my poor little fish. Gone so far as to remove all plants, and severely cut down on feedings. I’m to the point I will concede and buy a back tank filter which will make the lid useless. Had high hopes for this tank.

initial impressions

A spoiling Buscha

Just set it up, so not sure about how I will feel a few months from now. Beautiful tank, but lid came with crack, (almost expected as the plastic lid is very thin and packed below the tank), not worth sending back because I feel I will replace it anyway. Not a fan of the opening mid lid right under light. Feel the tank needs a clear full lid, maybe heavy plexiglass if not glass to avoid evaporation. Like that the motor, etc is hidden. Time will tell if the motor which appears small will be enough to move enough water through the filter to keep the tank clean. Light for now seems it will be bright enough for my guys, fan worms, non-photosynthetic corals, porcelain crabs and the pods I replenish every so often that keeps them happy.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Was a great tank until...

I’ve had this tank for about 1 - 2 years now and about half a year ago I got a small clownfish. Today I woke up to it being stuck in the filter tail first. He was healthy and had no problems and the body even doesn’t look that bad, but he is dead. I usually wouldn’t have a problem with this but since this is marketed as a nano tank where small fish are the norm, why would a small fish be able to get stuck and die in the filter? Besides that it’s a great tank and if you can control the algae ( I haven’t had too much since a first algae bloom ) it can be pretty easy to take care of.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Awesome Little Rimless All-in-One Tank

Clint S

Great for beginners to saltwater or advanced. An inexpensive, all-in-one start to learning saltwater. With a few upgrades to the filter and adding the optional skimmer unit. It will perform excellently for any person long term or can be used as stylish quarantine tank for the advanced.

Yes, I recommend this product.

will this be good for just one clown fish with sand and a mid size anomone and do i need to upgrade the filter and pump, what your thoghts and reccomendation?

Can you set it up so that the filter is on the right hand side instead of the left? (Every photo I see, the filter section is on the left.)

    1. Yes. You just turn it around.

My pump stop working after 7 months!! Do you think Petco will send me the new pump??

    1. Probably not but I would contact Fluval.

Can this be used for freshwater too ?

    1. Yes I use mine as saltwater I just buy the salt water sacs  to go into the filter

Can you put a fish in this size tank?

    1. Hi I have a fauval tank 2 1/2 gallons I wanna buy the 5 gallon I have a beta fish and I feel like I would like it to have more room what are your thoughts on this

Is there a protein skimmer included?

    1. No, mine did not come with a protein skimmer Bonus reading  I do have it set up as a fresh water planted tank with snails, 18 designer nano shrimps, two small betta females, two small fresh water puffers, two pigmy Cory  I’m not noticing any algae blooms, have had the planted tank with 8 different plant species for a month. The plants grow very nice with the included lights. The roots grow rather quickly in my humble opinion

how many gallons is this tank?

    1. its actually 9.56 to be exact when you do the math multiply the amount of length width and height in inches by themselves and divide by 231 and it gives you 9.56 gallons

Is the LED light programmable ?

    1. I think it would be possible; but will likley need someone with advanced electrical training. If you get it done...think about getting a patent on your device (smile).
