The Black Bird Wrasse has a unique appearance that is bound to impress. This wrasse can grow to be about 11 inches in size and will need an aquarium with ample swimming space. Adults of this wrasse will need about 125 gallons; however, juveniles can get away with smaller aquariums. Be sure to provide rockwork for this wrasse to hide in and graze on. They have an elongated snout that allows them to get food from nooks and crannies. House with fish that are larger and semi aggressive because as the Black Bird wrasse grows it will become more territorial and aggressive. When feeding, give a varied small meaty diet multiple times a day, as they are very active and keeping them full will help keep them away from desirable inverts. As with other wrasses, they are capable jumpers at all stages of their life, so a covered aquarium is necessary. Females will be brown, tan and black in color, while the males will be green and blue.

ACCLIMATION: Allow the sealed bag with your new fish to float in your aquarium for at least 15 minutes (but no longer than one hour) to ensure the water in the bag matches the temperature in your aquarium. For new aquariums, adding new fish slowly helps to properly develop the nitrogen cycle, which creates a safe environment for your aquatic pets. A bacteria booster may also help develop a new aquarium for your new fish. Petco offers free water testing in store to determine if your water is safe. DIET: A well-balanced diet consists of a variety of flakes, pellets, freeze-dried, and frozen food, depending on the species. FEEDING: Feed sparingly and no more than fish can eat in 1-2 minutes. Overfeeding can quickly foul the water, especially in smaller, unfiltered aquariums.
