I bought this scratcher a few months ago and my cat loved it until it started to come apart in one spot and she swallowed one of the strings. It wrapped around her tongue on one end and on the other it went in to her small intestine. The vet did emergency surgery and she did not survive the recovery! It cut up her insides bad and killed her. DO NOT BUY THIS SCRATCHER!! If you have this scratcher already, throw it away as soon as you see it coming apart.

I don’t have money for another one so it’s very disappointing! Save your money and buy something with a stronger base. This is a very cute scratching post, and it's one of the largest versions in the "small" post category (the ones that are not quite tall enough for an adult cat to fully stretch out). I was pleasantly surprised that it was mostly assembled when I opened the box (the last one I bought had a few more places to screw together - this one only needed to have the base attached). I also really like the quality and feel of the green velvet on the post base. I've heard my cat use it once so far, so time will tell if this one's a true keeper, but it's certainly a nice visual option.
