I have a miniature Dachshund and ordered a small-the nose of a Dachshund is very slim and long so easier to work with. It has to be on securely as mine was able to chew into a section of it. I cannot truly tell you what size to get as a Shitzu has a flatter small nose and then the neck is thicker. I would probably see if there is a size reference and then measure accordingly. If not, I'd probably go with a small as well(just on a gut feeling that an extra small might not circumference his nose to behind neck comfortably. Is it possible for you to go to your local store or call them for help as they might have the actual item there. If not, try zooming in to back of box on the page where size measurements are.
