I bought this in October to replace a similar one from Petco that my cat loved, and discovered the quality had changed—carpet was lower quality and began to shed almost immediately, plywood base and real wood posts were replaced with particle board, etc.. It lasted less than a month before literally falling apart, when the previous model lasted over a year with heavy use. Disappointed, as it was my girl’s favorite scratcher!

No, I do not recommend this product.

The nice brown carpeting in the picture is not what I got. I got the cheap stuff that kinda bums me out. I was expecting the exact same scratching post that I bought before but got a cheapened down version of it. I am waiting and watching to see if my cat will even use it now. It may end up in the garage and the old one will come back into the house if he prefers his old one more.

How heavy is bottom? Is it stable and they can't pull it over!?

    I think it is stable enough. It's a thinner base board than the original scratcher exactly like this that I bought years ago though. The carpet is cheaper stuff too. I am waiting to see if my boy who loved the original to death is going to like this one or not.

Once this is put together, can it be dis-assembled and re-assembled (with the proper tools, assuming an Allen wrench)? I'm planning to get this or something like it for traveling with 2 cats to a (cat-friendly) rental home.
