Dog Training Pointer

Bodes Mom

I did not find this product to be very helpful. My dog is six years old and did not respond at this stage of life to clicker training. So the pointer was not helpful either. I would only recommend this product for puppy training.

No, I do not recommend this product.

No Instructions!?

I recently adopted a high energy puppy...his name is actually "Krayzee", and I've never once been asked why I named him that by anyone who has met him. So, I was excited to get this training tool to try out on him. I opened the packaging and searched for the instructions, but there were none. I went back to the PetCo description on the website...nothing. I googled it, hoping to find a video or ANYTHING explaining how to train your dog with this...again, I found nothing. So, I picked up the training aid, extended the pointer, and pushed the button to make it click, and the sound DID get Krayzee's attention (the reason why I've given it 2 stars instead of 1). He came running over and tried to eat the little ball at the end of the pointer. He is a smart little guy, so maybe he will eventually teach me how to use it. In the meantime, I will keep looking for some type of tips or instructions for training with it. It does seem like a quality product. It's very disappointing to not be able to figure out how to use it.

Meets Expectations

This takes some getting used to, but luckily I have curious dogs who like to investigate unfamiliar things. I've wanted a target stick to help with some of the aspects of leash walking that are difficult with a dog who is under a foot tall. It's very difficult to instill certain good walking habits when we have to stop for treats every time, and I read that a target stick could help. Unfortunately, the weather has been all over the place lately and haven't had a lot of opportunity to practice this, but it has given us some time to get used to the target stick. The stick itself is a little, uh, sticky. This is probably better than it being overly loose. The clicker takes a bit more force than I was expecting, which isn't ideal. So far I like the clip with hook and reel that allows the clicker to be easily stowed and used, though I do not think these will last very long. All in all, for an entry-level target clicker this meets my expectations.

Yes, I recommend this product.

A Gentle Pointer ~ Training On Cue with EveryYay

Rescue Mama

I received this small sized Every Yay Dog Training Pointer for free from the Spotted by Petco sampling program in exchange for my honest review. I used this trainer with my newest young adult foster beagle and I was able to get him to potty in an area behind our tool shed within a week being at our house. That was good! What I found quite surprising was that our rescue beagle (that came from a forced shut down beagle laboratory that did cruel experiments on the beagles or forced them to eat things against their will to check that edible item for its safety level) at first would shake nervously when we try to train her with it. We actually had to place it on the floor, let her smell it, and then retreat from it a few different times for her to see that it wasn't going to hurt her. When she watched the other beagle going potty in the grass behind the tool shed, she would trot over there at least and smell the grass in that area. Sometimes she would potty right away, other times she would not potty at all.

Yes, I recommend this product.
